Toddler Time at the Library: Toddler time at the Elma Ross Public Library will be Mondays, June 2 & 16, at 11 a.m. Parents are encouraged to bring their toddlers and enjoy lots of stories, songs, puppets, crafts and a snack. Lunch 'N Learn at the Library: Lunch and Learn is planned for Wednesday, June 25, at noon at the Elma Ross Public Library. Each month promises an interesting speaker and an opportunity to learn something new. Remember to bring your lunch and the library will provide your drink and dessert. Brownsville Business Association: The Brownsville Business Association will conduct it's regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 17, at 5:30 p.m. All members are urged to attend. Everyone is welcome. The meeting will be held at the Delta Room, 703 East Main St., behind Backyard Barbecue. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4838: Monthly meeting of veterans who have fought in foreign wars to conduct business and plan for future events that involve veterans or veteran's programs. March of Dimes Golf Tournament: The 10th Annual March of Dimes Golf Tournament will be held Thursday, June 5, at the Brownsville country Club. Lunch and Registration will begin at 11:30 a.m., and Shotgun Start begins at 1 p.m. This is a Four-man Scramble, playing 18 holes. Featured events include $10,000 Hole in One Contest, Closest to the Pin Contest, Straightest Drive Contest and Longest Drive Contest. Mulligans are $5 each (limit 2 per player). Entry fee is $240 per team. Hole Sponsor ($100) and Golf Cart Sponsor ($25) opportunities are also available. Class of 1963 Reunion: The Haywood County High School Class of 1963 will hold its 45th class reunion on Saturday, June 28, at the College Hill Center. Barnett Family Homecoming: The Barnett's will be celebrating 37 years in the Gospel music ministry on Saturday, June 7, 2008, 7 p.m.., at Allen Baptist Church, 5533 Hwy. 79 North. Joining the Barnetts will be The Inmans, of Memphis, and The Joylanders, of Trenton, Tenn. UT Night at the Diamond Jaxx: The Haywood County UT Alumni Chapter invites you to met and hear Bob Kesling, Director of Broadcasting and The Voice of The Vols, at UT night at the Diamond Jaxx Friday, June 13, 2008, at Pringles Park in Jackson. Gates open at 6 p.m., and dinner will be served until the first pitch is thrown around 7 p.m. Wear Orange to be eligible for door prizes. There will be a playground for children and all children can run the bases after the game. Fireworks will end the evening. Relay for Life Yard Sale: Curves of Brownsville will hold a giant yard sale beginning Friday, June 6, from noon until 6 p.m., and again on Saturday, June 7, from 7 a.m. until. The event will take place in the Curve's parking lot (old Wal-mart shopping center). All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. For more information, call 731-779-9400. Relay for Life Survivor's Luncheon: The Annual Survivor's Luncheon will be held Thursday, June 12, beginning at 11:30 a.m., at the First South Bank Community Room, 326 West Main St. All cancer survivors are invited to attend. You do not have to call first, just come and enjoy the food and entertainment. Chairperson for this event is Anne Banks. Relay for Life Event: Relay for Life will begin Friday, June 13 at 5 p.m., at the L.Z. Hurley Memorial Football Field. The event will open with entertainment. Opening ceremonies will be held at 7 p.m. This year's honorary Chairpeople are Robert Barden and Peggy Boyd. Entertainment for the night will include: Mickey Utley, The Singing Firefighter David Smith, Christ Church, Tina Turner Review, Union Grove Special Group, Jeffrey Vaulx, Kickin',Women of Purpose, Shawn Williams and more. a special dance team from Memphis will also be entertaining. This year's theme is "Dancing for a Cure." The Luminaria Ceremony will be held at 10 p.m. and closing ceremonies will be at 11:45 p.m. There will be food, fun and entertainment for all ages. Everyone is invited to come and wak for a cure for Cancer. All proceeds from the evening goes to the American Cancer Society. Cemetery Day at Holly Grove: The annual Cemetery Day at Holly Grove Baptist Church will be held Sunday, June 1, 2008. The speaker will be Bro. Bob Williams, pastor of New Vision Community Church and a friend of the Holly Grove community. A potluck lunch will be served in the Family Life Center following morning worship services. Sunday school begins at 9:45 a.m. and worship begins at 11 a.m. It will be a great day of remembering, fellowship and worship. Booksigning of "Gabriel's Garden": "Gabriel's Garden," is a children's storybook written and illustrated by Hayden Hooper of Brownsville. Hooper will be on hand to discuss and sign copies of her book on Wednesday, June 4, in the lobby of the Gardener Building, on the north side of the square. Vacation Bible School: Vacation Bible School is a time for children to have a lot of fun while learning wonderful truths about Jesus Christ. State of African-American Males in Haywood County: All Ladies and the General Public are invited to attend. The fourth forum focused on the state of African-American Males in Haywood County will take place Sunday, June 8, 2008, at 3:30 p.m., in Carver Gymnasium, 709 East Jefferson. Featured moderator for this event will be Dr. James Holloway, Professor Emeritus, Howard University Medical School, Washington, D C. This session will focus on “self-help” reduction of early death rates and medical complications through no-cost life style changes. This series of forums has been hosted by a group of concerned African-American males with special emphasis on attendance by black males. Learn more ... Free Health Fair: A free Health Fair will be offered at Faith Deliverance Church, 1193 Tamm St., Saturday, June 14, from 9 a.m. until noon. Haywood Family Health Center staff will be onsite offering free cholestrol and glucose screenings, free blood pressure and weight screenings, and Dr. Farnel Backer will also be available to answer any medical questions. Relay for Life Cookout: Crestview Healthcare will host a cookout on Friday, June 6, from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Plates will be available for delivery or pick-up. Relay Yard Sale, Car Wash and More: The City of Brownsville Relay for Life team will host a car wash ($5), Spaghetti plates ($6) and a yard sale Saturday, June 7, beginning at 7 a.m., in the parking lot of the WOW Building on Boyd Ave. Anyone and everyone is invited. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society. Cheerleader and Football Sign-ups: Haywood Youth Sports will be signing up children to play football and to cheer every Saturday during June from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., at the WOW building on Boyd Ave., across from the football stadium. [Back to Calendar] Concert Series: The Wednesday Morning Musicale presents the second concert series in its 100th anniversary celebration series, featuring Jeff Binford, Alice McClanahan, Boyd Richards and Ronnie Richards. The concert will be Sunday June 22, 3 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church. Tickets are $10 each and are available at Insouth Bank or at the door. Of particular interest: Jeff Binford will perform portions of the dedicatory concert from when First Presbyterian dedicated its sanctuary organ many years ago. Singing at the Center: The Brownsville Senior Center invites everyone to attend “Singing at the Center” Friday, June 27, from 6-8 p.m. This is a time for people of all ages to come together for an evening of relaxation with lots of fun, food and fellowship, and music. Anyone interested in singing or playing an instrument should call the center for a time slot. Remember this is a special time for intergenerational fellowship. So, grandparents bring your grandchildren. There is no admission fee, just come out and enjoy the fun. Supper will be waiting for you. The Center is located across from the YMCA at College Hill.
