Toddler Time at the Library: Toddler time at the Elma Ross Public Library will be Mondays, March 3 & March 17, at 11 a.m. Parents are encouraged to bring their toddlers and enjoy lots of stories, songs, puppets, crafts and a snack. Lunch 'N Learn at the Library: Lunch and Learn is planned for Wednesday, March 26, at noon at the Elma Ross Public Library. Each month promises an interesting speaker and an opportunity to learn something new. Remember to bring your lunch and the library will provide your drink and dessert. Brownsville Business Association: The Brownsville Business Association will conduct it's regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 18, at 5:30 p.m. All members are urged to attend. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4838: Monthly meeting of veterans who have fought in foreign wars to conduct business and plan for future events that involve veterans or veteran's programs. Fabulous Fifties Dinner & Auction: The Carl Perkins annual dinner and auction will be held on Saturday, March 15, with the silent auction beginning at 5:30 p.m. this year's theme is "Fabulous Fifties" and will be held at the National Guard Armory on Morgan Street. Lifeline Screenings: 75% OF STROKES MAY BE PREVENTED! Take 10 minutes that could save your life. For members and friends of the community who are interested, Life Line Screening will be at First Presbyterian Church on Saturday, March 1st. There will be ultrasound testing for stroke, abdominal aneurysms, and blockages in the leg arteries. They will also perform osteoporosis screenings. You must Pre-register by calling 1-800-324-1851. An Evening with Carol Reese: The Haywood County Master Gardeners and UT Extension present an evening with gardening "guru" Carol Reese on Thursday, March 13, 6-8 p.m., at the Ann Marks Performing Arts Center. Reese is a UT Area Specialist in Ornamental Horticulture at the West Tennessee Research and Education Center in Jackson.. She is known world-wide for her witty personality and extensive knowledge of horticulture. Admission is free and a must for any garden enthusiasts. Those who know Reese, know you can never tire of her programs. Each presentation offers an opportunity to learn and be entertained. Reese's talk will include tips and techniques to make the most of your landscape, such as choosing the right plants and structures. Curves 10th Annual Food Drive: Join Curves of Brownsville as they work to collect food for local food banks, The Mustard See and Carl Perkins Center, during Curves 10th Annual Food Drive. This is an effort to see that everyone in Haywood County has access to HEALTHY food. Nationwide Curves is attempting to raise 15 million pounds of food. The Brownsville Curves is also competing nationwide to provide the most pounds per member. To celebrate this effort, Curves of Brownsville is offering a special member discount to anyone who brings a bag of non-perishabe food items. Town Hall Meeting: Tuesday night, March 4, at 7 p.m., Mayor Franklin Smith invites you to a “town hall meeting” to be held at the Marks Performing Arts Center at College Hill. A similar event a few years ago was well received and very productive. With major decisions facing the County Commission, this meeting will give you a voice in letting the Commission know your feelings and your views on where our county is headed. All Haywood Countians are encouraged to attend this public meeting. Habitat for Humanity Community Meeting: Haywood County Habitat for Humanity invites you to a community-wide meeting on Tuesday, March 18, from 6 - 7:30 p.m., at the College Hill Center. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the chapters current and future direction. The Habitat Board willupdate you ont he current status and your input is needed to help guide the future of Habitat in our community. Holy Week Services: The Haywood/Brownsville Ministerial Alliance will once again host Holy Week Services beginning Monday, March 17 through Friday, March 21. Services begin at 12 noon followed by a light lunch at 12:30. The cost of lunch is $5 per person. The schedule for the week is as follows: Monday, March 17 - Brownsville Baptist Church; Tuesday, March 18 - Christ Episcopal Church; Wednesday, March 19 - First Presbyterian Church; Thursday, March 20 - First Baptist Church; and Friday, March 21 - First United Methodist Church. Everyone is welcome. Good Friday Service: First Presbyterian Church, 109 West College St., will host its annual Good Friday Service beginning at 7 p.m., Friday, March 21. The service will include special music by the Chancel Choir and reading from the Passion Story of Christ. Everyone is welcome; a nursery is provided. Benefit for Janice Greer Whittiemore: A benefit will be held Saturday, March 8, beginning at 11 a.m., at the The Cypress Hut on Hw. 70 West in Stanton, TN, to help raise money for Janice Greer Whittiemore. Whittiemore has been diagnosed with Wilson's Disease and requires a liver transplant. She is currently #5 on the transplant list. Healthy Homes comes to Anderson: Nationally-known motivational speaker Derrick Hayes will be the guest speaker at the kick-off of Healthy Homes, sponsored by UT Extension and The Family Resource Centers. Singing Firefighter in Concert: Everyone’s favorite Singing Firefighter, David Smith, will be in concert Saturday, March 29, at Harmony Baptist Church, in the Hillville community. This is a benefit singing for the church youth group. A fish supper will begin at 5 p.m., and the gospel singing will begin at 6 p.m. Smith will also have his new CD “Trophies of Grace” available. Community-Wide Easter Egg Hunt: Brownsville/Haywood County Parks and Recreation’s Community Wide Easter Egg Hunt will be held Saturday, March 15, at Volunteer Park. Fall Prevention and Mobility Needs: The Brownsville Senior Center will conduct a semiar on Fall Prevention and Mobile Needs on Thursday, March 27, at 10:30 a.m. Three Wishes Medical Supply Co. will be on hand to answer questions about mobility equipment such as motorized and manuel wheelchairs, hospital beds, breathing medications and home oxygen, canes, walkers and more. Christ Church, 2120 Anderson Avenue, will host an Easter Egg Hunt Saturday, March 22, from noon until 4 p.m. Inside the church will be singing and having fun learning about what Easter really means. On site will also be jumping machines, a candy-filled egg hunt with prizes, and each child will receive a free Easter basket. Haywood County Master Gardener Association Meeting: Haywood County Master Gardeners will meet on Tuesday, March 25, at 6 p.m., at the UT Extension office on South Wilson St. This is a regular monthly meeting. Project Vote Smart: Project Vote Smart's National Buss Tour will visit Brownsville on Tuesday, March 25, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., at the Haywood County Courthouse. Visitors to the bus will begin their experience by watching a short video in the bus movie theater and then be able to use laptop computers to learn first hand about the different methods you can use to research political candidates and your current elected officials.For more information, visit www.votesmart.org. Bake Sale: Haywood Park Community Hospital Relay for Life team will sponsor a Bake Sale on Friday, March 21, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., in the main lobby of the hospital. Hamburger & Hot Dog Sale: First State Bank, First State Insurance and First State Finance will host a fundraiser for Relay for Life on friday, March 21. Public Hearing - Hwy. 19 Design: The Tennessee Department of Transportation will conduct a Design Public Hearing on Thursday, March 27, from 5-7 p.m., to discuss the proposed widening of Hwy. 19. The hearing will be held at Sunny Hill School. Mini Tractor Pull: Insouth Bank's Relay for Life tean will sponsor a mini-tractor pull on Saturday, March 29, beginning at 5 p.m., at the Crockett Mini-Pullers field on Boyd Avenue.
