Toddler Time at the Library: Toddler time at the Elma Ross Public Library will be Mondays, May 5 & 19, at 11 a.m. Parents are encouraged to bring their toddlers and enjoy lots of stories, songs, puppets, crafts and a snack. Lunch 'N Learn at the Library: Lunch and Learn is planned for Wednesday, May 28, at noon at the Elma Ross Public Library. Each month promises an interesting speaker and an opportunity to learn something new. Remember to bring your lunch and the library will provide your drink and dessert. Brownsville Business Association: The Brownsville Business Association will conduct it's regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 20, at 5:30 p.m. All members are urged to attend. Everyone is welcome. This month's special guest speaker will be Clinton Neal Director of Haywood County Solid Waste. He will talk about recycling and how businesses can help. The meeting will be held at the Delta Room, 703 East Main St., behind Backyard Barbecue. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4838: Monthly meeting of veterans who have fought in foreign wars to conduct business and plan for future events that involve veterans or veteran's programs. Humane Society Benefit Pageant: A beauty pageant to benefit the Brownsville-Haywood County Humane Society will be held Saturday, May 3, at the Ann Marks Performing Arts Center. The pageant is open to girls in the West Tennessee area up to age 21. Mandatory registration fee is $20; optional categories are $10 each and include: Most Photogenic, Best Dressed, Most Beautiful, Best Personality or Model and overall Most Beautiful. Prepaid entries may enter everything for $45; Contestants who enter at the door may enter everything for $50. All funds raised will benefit the Brownsville-Haywood County Humane Society. Park of Dreams Bake Sale: On Saturday, May 10, beginning at 9 a.m., there will be a Bake Sale at the Wal-Mart parking lot to benefit the Park of Dreams. Cakes, Cookies and pies will be on sale for Mother's Day holiday. All proceeds earned from the sale of the desserts will benefit The Park of Dreams, the all-inclusive playground projected for spring 2009 construction in Volunteer Park. FREE Blood Pressure Checks: In observance of National High Blood Pressure Education Month, Haywood Family Health Center, office of Dr. FArnel Backer, will be giving FREE blood pressure checks every Friday from 1 -4 p.m. during the month of May. For more information, please call 731-772-0008. 48 Hour Prophecy Revival: Dr. Ron Herrod,a Southern Baptist Evangelist, will be leading a 48 hour "Anticipating His Return" Prophecy Revival at Brownsville Baptist Church beginning Saturday, May 3, through Monday, May 5th. Dr. Herrod has served for 36 years as Senior Pastor and his ministry has included national television, crusades and mission projects in more than 30 countries. He has served in many capacities throughout the Baptist conventions and has written seven books. He is a graduate of William Carey College, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and Luther Rice Seminary. Rev. Rick Clark, Minister of Music at West Jackson Baptist Church, Jackson, TN will lead the revival music. Sponsored annually by the Haywood County Ministerial Alliance, everyone is invited to take part in the event. I Can't Believe I Found This At a Yard Sale: Insouth Bank will host its annual Relay for Life "I can'tbelieve I found this at a yard sale and bake sale" Saturday, May 3, beginning at 7 a.m. There will be a wide variety of items available. Most items will be indoors, so weather willnot be an issue. The sale will be held directly behind the main branch on South Washington. For more information, call Debbie at 731-772-8629. Spring Honors Recital: As part of the 100th Anniversary Celebration, the Wednesday Morning Musciale will present a musical concert, featuring emerging musicians from Haywood County. Children, teenagers, and young adults will present a varied program of instrumental and vocal selections. The program will be held at Brownsville Baptist Church on Sunday, May 4, at 3 p.m. The public is invited to attend. There is no admission charge. Connected Tennessee eCommunity Leadership Team Meeting: The next meeting of the Haywood County eCommunity Leadership Team will be Tuesday, May 27, at 5:30 p.m., at the Brownsville Haywood County Chamber of Commerce, 121 West Main Street. The purpose of this meeting is to begin the evaluation process to provide a benchmark for the community's current readiness to participate in the enormous economic, social, governmental and personal changes that high-speed communications entail. Benefit Car Wash and Cookout:
The Brownsville Fire Department will host a car wash and cook out on Saturday, May 3, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Bring your cars by the main fire station on Franklin St. beside City Hall and while you are there pick up a chicken leg quarter plate or smoked sausage. Each plate comes with beans, slaw and a drink and cost only $5. The car wash is also just $5. All proceeds from this event will go to Relay for Life. Caregiver Support Group: The Caregiver Support Group will meet Monday, May 12, at 10 a.m. at the Brownsville Senior Center. All caregivers are invited to attend. Singspiration: The Brownsville Senior Center invites everyone to "Singspiration" Friday, May 16, at 10 a.m. David Smith, The Singing Firefighter, will minister to us in song. Boston Butt Sale: Haywood Helping Hands is sponsoring a Boston Butt Sale from May 1 - May 16. Union Grove Relay Fundraiser: Union Grove United Methodist Church will hold a Relay for Life fundraiser on Saturday, May 31, beginning at 6 p.m. This fundraiser will consist of a BBQ Chicken and Tenderloin supper, a live auction and music by Russell Dickerson of Franklin, Tenn., and 2008 Kentucky Opry Talent Search winner.
