King & Queen of Hearts Pageant: The King & Queen of Hearts Pageant to benefit the Brownsville-Haywood County Humane Society will be held Saturday, February 7, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Ann Marks Performing Arts Center, Brownsville. The pageant is open to boys ages 0-8 years and girls ages 0-21 years. Queens from the 6-9, 10-12, 13-15 and 16-21 age groups will qualify to compete in the Strawberry Territorial Revues. Mandatory registration fee is $20 if prepaid by January 24 or $25 at the door. Optional categories are $10 each, and contestants may enter all categories (there are 7) for $45 (prepaid) or $55 at the door. Admission fees to the pageant are $3 for adults, $1 for children under 12. One parent per contestant is admitted free.

2009 Master Gardener Class: This class began Thursday, January 22. If you want to learn about all aspects of gardening and landscaping, this is the class for you. The class is taught on Thursday evenings at the Haywood County Agriculture Building, 100 South Wilson, Brownsville. If there are sufficient numbers, the staff will also conduct 9 a.m. - 12 noon sessions. Remaining class dates are Feb. 5, Feb. 12, Feb. 19, Feb. 26, Mar. 5, Mar. 12, Mar. 19 and Mar. 26. City Ward 4 Neighborhood Watch Organizational Meeting: Thursday, February 5, 2009, 6 p.m., at City Hall, Brownsville. This will be an organizational meeting for residents of City Wards 2 & 4 to develop a Neighborhood Watch Community Organization. Wards 2 & 4 include the following streets and neighborhoods: Hatchie, Cooper, Anderson (out to the bypass), South Washington, Haywood, Jefferson, South Bond, South Park, Marge & Felicia. Valentine Banquet: Haywood County Relay for Life will host a Valentine Banquet Saturday, February 14, 7 p.m., at the National Guard Armory on Morgan St. Everyone is invited and tickets are $15.00. They can be purchased at INSOUTH Bank, First South Bank or any Relay for Life team member. Last year's event was a great success and the food and entertainment was wonderful. All proceeds go to the Haywood County Relay for Life. Dress is casually sharp, you don’t have to have evening attire to attend, just come join you’re friends for an evening of dining ,dancing and fun.

Rupture Booksigning: Haywood County Native Scott Pearson's debut novel "Rupture" has recently been released and Pearson will be meeting old friends and signing copies of his book at a Book Signing Sunday, February 15, from 2-4 p.m., at College Hill Center. Stew Luncheon: Parks & Recreation Relay Team is offering a Stew Luncheon Friday, February 20, beginning at 11 a.m., at the Parks & Rec. building on Boyd Ave., to benefit Relay for Life.
