BBA Meeting: The Brownsville Business Association will hold its meeting on Tuesday, September 21, 5:30 p.m., in the Delta Room behind Backyard Barbecue, 703 East Main St. All members are encouraged to attend. Toddler Time at the Library: Toddler time at the Elma Ross Public Library will be held Monday, September 20, at 11 a.m. Parents are encouraged to bring their toddlers and enjoy lots of stories, songs, puppets, crafts and a snack. Lunch 'N Learn at the Library: Lunch and Learn is planned for Wednesday, September 22, at noon at the Elma Ross Public Library. Each month promises an interesting speaker and an opportunity to learn something new. Remember to bring your lunch and the library will provide your drink and dessert. Call the library, 772-9534, for more information. Tennessee Trash-Bash Cruizin: Tennessee Trash will present a two-day Classic Car Cruise-in September 17-18, at College Hill Center. Friday night’s dinner and concert will begin at 5:30 p.m. Enjoy dinner picnic style or inside the air conditioned center. Menu includes BBQ chicken, pulled pork and smoked ribs with all the sides, plus drink for $5 per person. At 7 p.m., in the Ann Marks Performing Arts Center, a concert will be presented by Eddie Harrison and Debbie Jamison (formerly of The Short Cuts) and Brownsville’s own Blair Simpson. $15 registration fee per car includes two tickets to the concert. Saturday Cruise-in begins at 9 a.m. Lunch will be provided from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m., for up to two people per registered car. A Poker Run will begin at 1:30 p.m. and cash prizes will be awarded for the top two poker hands. An awards presentation will be at 2:30 p.m. Registration for both days, including Friday night dinner and concert and lunch Saturday is $25 per registered car. Plenty of shade and grass, plus air conditioned building and restrooms. Proceeds will benefit the Brownsville Haywood County Humane Society. Xcellence Fundraiser: The 3rd Annual Xcellence Gala Fundraiser "It's a Chocolate and Pink Affair" will be held Saturday, September 18, at the Brownsville Country Club. Swearing-In Ceremony: Haywood County’s newly elected officials will be sworn-in Wednesday, September 1, at 11 a.m. at the Haywood County Courthouse. Willow Grove M.B. Church Pastor Anniversary: The Willow Grove M.B. Church will celebrate its Pastor's Anniversary on Sunday, September 12, 2010 at 9:15 a.m. The guest speaker will be Rev. Willie Fields from Memphis, and the former pastor of First Baptist Church in Brownsville. Rev. Tom Averyheart has been the pastor of Willow Grove for the past 37 years. Concert on the Porch Wildwood Express: Join the West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center for the third in its series of summer 'Concerts on the Porch' of the Sleepy John Estes house Saturday, September 25, beginning at 6 p.m. This month’s concert will feature Wildwood Express, a group of five area musicians who perform the old time stringed music of yesterday. Their instruments of choice are the banjo, dulcimer, mandolin, upright bass and guitar. This family-friendly concert will include bluegrass gospel, instrumentals and some old time country. Hwy. 7 In Concert at First Presbyterian Church: First Presbyterian Church presents the Christian Band, HWY 7, in concert, Wednesday, September 8, 6 p.m. HWY 7 began their journey several years ago, and since that time, they have been traveling on the road full-time, and performing at different venues across American from New York to California. With a repertoire of their original songs, mixed in with today’s Praise and Worship and Contemporary Christian, moving lyrics, and powerful vocals, HWY 7 is able to minister to any crowd no matter what age or music preference. Dustin Milton Benefit Golf Tournament: The Haywood County EMS will host a benefit Golf Tournament Thursday, September 9, beginning at 10 a.m., at the Brownsville Country Club. Entry fee is $200 per 4-man team. Purchase mulligans. Awards given for the Closest to Pin and Longest Drive. A sack lunch will be provided. Sobriety Checkpoints: This weekend, local authorities will be increasing enforcement efforts to insure the safety of the citizens of Brownsville and Haywood County. Officers of the Brownsville Police Department and the Haywood County Sheriff's Department will be teaming up. Joint enforcement activities will be conducted on Friday September 3, beginning at 8 pm and end Saturday September 4, at 2 am. Activities will include Sobriety Checkpoints, and DUI Saturations. Officers will concentrate their enforcement efforts on removing impaired drivers from the roadways. However as non-compliance with the safety belt and child restraint laws place people in danger, these laws will be vigorously enforced as well. Awana begins at Christ Church: Christ Church of Brownsville's Awana program will start back Wednesday, September 15 at 6:30 p.m. All children ages 3 to 11 are welcome to attend. There is no cost for the program. Women's Self Defense Seminar: A free Women's Self Defense Seminar will be held Saturday, September 25, 9:30 a.m., at the Park and Rec. building, 100 Boyd Avenue. The seminar is free, but you must RSVP to okigojuryu@gmail.com to register. The event is sponsored by U.S. Police Defensive Tactics Association. Instructors are Thomas Stanifer, 5th Degree Black Belt, US Regional Director South East, Certified Law Enforcement Trainer/Tactical Self Defense /Hostage Crisis/ Martial Art's Master Instructor; Ace Lewis, 3rd Degree Black Belt, Certified Law Enforcement Trainer-TN State Director; and Randy Depew, 1st Degree Black Belt-West TN Area Director, Certified Law Enforcement Trainer. INSOUTH Bank Exchange Club Golf Tournament: INSOUTH Bank is joining forces with the Carl Perkins Center to host their annual Golf Tournament on September 16, at the Brownsville Country Club. All proceeds will go to benefit the Exchange Club-Carl Perkins Center with the services they provide to children of abuse and other programs that help the lives of people in the community. All money raised at the Golf Tournament will stay in Haywood County. The shotgun start will be at 1:00 pm. The cost is $240.00 for a four man team.
