Project:
Park of Dreams
A
local organization of citizens is asking for the community’s help and support
in an effort to build an 8,000 square foot “all-inclusive” park that will
connect to the existing playground at Volunteer Park.
With
the help of David Jones, Mid-South Recreation in Memphis, Tenn., a design has
been chosen that will serve all people, including those with special needs.
The
theme of the park will be a tribute to the everyday heroes of Haywood County.
Panels will be incorporated into the playground displaying unique historical
and current facts about our region and community, incorporating an educational
factor into the project.
The
proposed plans have been approved by the Conservation Board and the City and
County. The projected cost of the park is $250,000. Fundraising efforts are
beginning and will be conducted throughout the upcoming year.
The
group hopes the community will support this project and that the “Park of
Dreams” will be of great significant to everyone, but especially to those
families with children living with disabilities.
Information
and drawings of the “Park of Dreams” will be on display at the Gardner
Building, on the north side of the square, during the Hatchie Fall Fest,
October 20.
As
part of its effort to raise funds for the park, organizers are selling
fully-cooked Boston Butts (the upper portion of the pork shoulder) for $25
each. All ordered must be received by Friday, November 2. Pick-up will be
Saturday, November 10, in the Wal-Mart parking lot.
