A
good crowd, including visitors from as far away as Oklahoma, gathered Saturday,
October 11, for Fun on the Square during the annual Scarecrow Contest in
Brownsville, Tenn. Students of the Kincaid/Gooch studios provided entertainment
and attendees enjoyed hot dogs and homemade ice cream throughout the afternoon.
“We
are very pleased with the turnout, both the scarecrows and those who’ve come up
to enjoy an afternoon on the square,” said Haywood County Extension Director
Walter Battle.
Although judges had a hard time deciding from among the 28 scarecrows exhibited on the courthouse lawn, the winners have been chosen and will be announced from the main stage during the upcoming Hatchie Fall Fest October 18, at 4:45 p.m. Festival goers will also be given an opportunity to pick their favorites and vote for the “People Choice” award to be presented at the same time.
The annual Scarecrow Contest and Fun on the Square is sponsored by the Haywood County Master Gardeners.
