Brownsville/Haywood
County Parks & Recreation Department announces its sponsorship of the 2008
Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). The SFSP helps
provide low income children an additional opportunity to receive healthy,
nutritious meals during summer vacation.
Meals
will be provided to all children, age 18 and under, without charge.
In 2007, forty-six agencies operated the program at over 1,300
sites across Tennessee. These feeding locations included parks, playgrounds,
recreation centers, schools, colleges, churches, camps, housing projects and
other places accessible to needy children.
Acceptance
and participation requirements for the program and all activities are the same
for all, Parks & Rec. will serve meals to all
children in attendance regardless of their race, color, national origin, sex,
age or disability.
Any
and all persons interested in participating may call the Parks &
Recreation Office at (731) 772-6693 or come by 100 Boyd Avenue for more
information.
Regulated and funded nationally through the U.S. Department of
Agriculture (USDA), this nutrition program is designed to assist low-income
children who depend upon school lunch and breakfast programs when schools are
in session and whose needs continue into the summer. In Tennessee, SFSP is administered by the
Department of Human Services under an agreement with the USDA.
