Trash Nationals Celebrates 29 Years of Helping Local Charities

The Tennessee Trash Car Club in Brownsville, Tenn., will celebrate 29 years of presenting the Trash Nationals Car Show during the 2008 Hatchie Fall Fest.

Trash Nationals is held each year to help raise money for the Haywood County Multiple Disability Class. “This is something we love and it’s a way for us to give back to our community,” says car club member and show organizer Tim Sills. According to Sills, this event has helped the club contribute well over $100,000 to local charities.

This is the first year the event will be held in conjunction with the Hatchie Fall Fest and will include a Cruise-In on Saturday, October 18, at 5 p.m., on the Brownsville Court Square. Participants will be escorted onto the festival grounds from the North Washington Street festival entrance for an evening of live music featuring Country music star Mickey Utley.

On Sunday, October 19, the Trash Nationals will take place at the WOW/Elma Ross Public Library parking lot on the corner of East Main Street and Boyd Ave. Participants are asked to register between 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Entry fees are $25 per car. Judging will begin at 1:30 and winners will be announced during an awards ceremony at 3:30 p.m. There will be classes for all entries.

With 100+ cars participating, Sills estimates that crowds reach well into the thousands during the daylong event. For more information, contact Sills, 731-780-6061; Wayne McCool, 731-772-9276; or Joe Sills, 731-780-1356.
