Snow fell steadily beginning on Saturday evening, February 28, 2009. By Sunday morning, March 1, there was more than 1-foot of snow on the ground with drifts as high as 3-feet +. Monday evening, March 2, snow was still hanging around and beautiful. As a matter of fact snow was still on the ground Thursday morning.

Snow Days 2009

By Sonia Outlaw-Clark

Saturday afternoon late, February 28, 2009, small flakes of snow began falling on Haywood County, Tennessee. According to most, the biggest snow we've seen since 1968. Reports of a foot plus came from all over the county. School was out for three days and snowmen dotted the landscape. Even a few igloos and tunnels were dug out of drifts that were three-feet deep plus.

A beautiful sight to wake up to, but proved to be hazardous for those traveling on the interstate between Jackson and Memphis. Reports were of people stranded for more than 16 hours when traffic came to a stand still over night.

These photos are from my yard. As you can see I was a little obsessed with my lamppost. At times the snow was so thick that I could not see past it. It's glow on the new fallen snow was intoxicating as I stood and watched it come down.

It was all so beautiful and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. Everything covered in white gives such a feeling of renewal and cleanliness. Kind of like white-washing away the harshness of winter in preparation for Springtime.
