Memorial
Day Festivities in the Works
There’s a new community group that has been formed
in Haywood County. The People’s Community Organization has been active for
several months now and has planned some special activities for the Memorial Day
weekend.
Events begin Friday night, May 26, with a banquet
held in honor of a Hero/Volunteer of the Year. The banquet starts at 6 p.m., at
the Wyatt-Duke National Guard Armory on Morgan Street.
Enjoy a “Gospel Explosion” Saturday night, May 27.
Ann Marks Performing Arts Center will fill with the sounds of 100 Male Voices
and other great musicians from Memphis at 6 p.m.
Festivities will continue with a Memorial Day
parade Monday, May 29. The parade will fill the streets of downtown Brownsville
and pay tribute to those who have died for our freedom. The parade begins at 10
a.m.
Everyone is invited to participate in these
activities. For more information, contact Jeanette Cole at 731-394-8475.
The People’s Community Organization was organized
to encourage youth to interact with adults from the community. The group hopes
to create a positive atmosphere that will inspire youth and contribute to the
overall success of those involved. These fundraising events will help provide
programs and opportunities to involve youth in community activities.
