Excellence!
Flashing blue lights in
your rear view mirror just became a good thing. That is, if you are not
breaking the law.
According to Police Chief Gill Kendrick, it is time to “reward those abiding by the law.” Starting September 11, officers will begin randomly stopping people they see doing “right.” Whether it’s coming to a complete stop before turning right on red, obeying the speed limit in a school zone or simply having a seat belt on, Brownsville Police want to show the community that they do realize and want to reward those who choose to obey the law.
“These people are the
glue,” says Kendrick, “and what the community is all about.” Emphasizing that
all stops are not negative, officers will be allowed to reward citizens who are
doing an exceptional job of driving. Rewards will include key chains, chamber
bucks and more. Officers will also be asking questions that will help them
compile demographic information.
Sometimes law-abiding citizens need a little recognition, too, and Brownsville Police are proud to oblige. Pay attention. P.R.I.D.E. is looking for you.
