Twas the night before Christmas

And all throughout Brownsville,

The Rescue Squad was scurrying

To keep parade goers from worrying.

I’d love to come up with a Brownsville version of “The Night Before Christmas” but I never was any good at rhyming. Probably all those “visions of sugarplums” getting in the way of creative thinking. That and being awaked from a sound sleep by all that clamoring about on the rooftop.

If you haven’t figured it out yet, “The Night Before Christmas” is the theme of this year’s Christmas Parade. The parade is always a great time for Brownsville and Haywood County children. Santa makes his first appearance and the sight of all those colored lights as the floats make their way down Main Street is something to see. A lot of hard work goes into organizing this event each year and the Emergency Management elves do a wonderful job. This year’s parade is scheduled for Saturday, December 2, at 6 p.m.

Have an idea for a great float or parade entry? Everyone is invited to participate. Entry forms are available at the Emergency Management office or by calling 731-772-1227. Entry deadline is November 27, 2006.

The lights were all hung,

The parade route determined,

Cause every one knew

St. Nick was a comin'.
