All About

It’s almost 2006. Just two more days. Time for resolutions and fresh starts. Bing Crosby said it best in the movie White Christmas. Remember the scene in the kitchen right before midnight New Year’s Eve? He sang a song with these lyrics: “It’s time to say goodbye, before we say hello…” So before I can say goodbye to 2005, I need to think about all that has happened this year. Hurricane Katrina instantly springs to mind, but so does the Hatchie Fall Fest, a record-setting Christmas Basket fundraiser, unveiling of the Gen. Jacob Jennings Brown bust at the Haywood County Museum and YMCA soccer games. And that’s just the first things that come to mind. What will you think of when you say goodbye to 2005? Let’s make a list! Instead of a list of resolutions (that we’re more than likely going to break anyway), let’s make a list of memories. E-mail me your list and I’ll share it with the rest of the All About Brownsville readership in a future issue. We’ll all share the memories as we say a proper “goodbye” to 2005.

Buy a Brick, Help a Child

You’ll be hearing more and more about the new Child Advocacy Center that the Carl Perkins Center is planning to build in the coming weeks. There are many levels of participation that will allow you to help with this worthwhile project. One of the things you can do is to buy a brick. It can be in honor or memory of a loved one or simply for yourself. Either way it helps provide a center where children can be better served without added trauma. Call the center, 772-8378, to learn other ways you can make a difference.

It’s still not too late to sign-up for the 2006 Master Gardeners class being offered by UT Extension. Classes begin January 10 and will meet every Tuesday night at 6 p.m., through March 28.
