Brownsville & Haywood County October 27, 2006 Volume

The Brownsville Haywood County Chamber of Commerce held its annual
Membership Banquet last night. This is the evening when the yearly awards are
presented and this year’s recipients are most deserving. Please join me in
congratulating these men and women for their outstanding contributions to our
community. Andy Wynn – “Man of the Year” JoAnna Morris – “Woman of the
Year” First South Bank –
“Business/Industry of the Year” Dontye Bradford – “Educator of the
Year” Nancy Cates – “Volunteer of the
Year” Tim Stokely – “Ambassador of the
Year” If you still have a scarecrow up on the courthouse lawn, please
remember to have it down by Saturday afternoon, October 28, to make way for
the Field of Flags. I can’t express enough my appreciation and that of the
Haywood County Master Gardeners for all who participated in this year’s
contest. There were 36 entries and all of them winners. Unfortunately all
couldn’t receive prizes and I promise you it was a hard decision for the
judges. I will tell you this. There were three ties when the judges finished
their initial voting and they had to vote three more times before all the
ties were broken. That gives you an idea of just how hard it was to pick a
winner. See the winning entries here. What a great day Saturday at the festival!! If you
missed this year’s Hatchie Fall Fest, well, you just missed it. It is
estimated that over 3,000 people attended and the crowd was steady all day. I
even noticed a few, myself included, who tried something from every food
vendor there. A big, BIG, thank you to Daniel Thornton and everyone who
worked so hard to make this festival a success. And if you enjoyed the
festival as much as I did, please thank the sponsors. Because of their
financial and in-kind contributions, our festival remains free to everyone
and they need to know how much we all appreciate them. And just because this year’s festival is over doesn’t
mean that there is nothing to do for a while. Check out all the activities
lined-up for this weekend. You’ll want to be sure and attend Broadway Review
II at College Hill. There is a Saturday night and Sunday afternoon
performance scheduled. Jennifer Simmons Milligan is the director and the
Stars of Brownsville will put their best foot forward in this musical
production. |
