Great turn out for the Scarecrow Contest with 41 entries. Winners in the adult category are: 1st place – Haywood Park Senior Circle; 2nd place – Kimmie’s Image Salon; and 3rd place – Elma Ross Public Library. Children’s category winners are: 1st place – Gone Fishin’ by Preston Moore; 2nd place tie – Count SpongeBob Scarepants by the Mac Five and Snowcrow by the Baumheckel Girls; and 3rd place – Big Truck by Drake Baggett. Be sure and vote for your favorite between 10 and 2, Saturday, and listen for the winner announcements at 4:45 p.m. from the stage area.

Give Blood Win a Holiday Getaway

Give blood and register to win a Gatlinburg holiday getaway. Give blood in October and November and you could win 4-nights at a chalet in Gatlinburg. The trip can be taken within a year from time of drawing. Drawing will be held Dec. 3. Lifeline Blood Services will be on the Brownsville Court Square Friday, October 19, from noon until 6 p.m. Remember to bring your photo ID.

Upward Basketball & Cheerleading Registration

Register for Brownsville Baptist Church Upward Basketball and Cheerleading from 10 - 1, October 20, 27, and Nov. 3. Children in 1st through 6th can register to participate in basketball or cheerleading. Registration fee for basketball is $48 and for cheerleading is $53. Late fee of $10 for registering after October 27. Registration will take place in the Brownsville Baptist Church Family Life Center. For more information, call Jason Smith at 772-9753.

 

Allen Baptist Fun/Fall Fest

Allen Baptist Church, 5533 Hwy. 79 N., will be having a fun/fall fest Saturday, October 20, beginning at noon until 5 p.m. Everyone is invited to join the fun, food and fellowship.

Live on the Lawn

The Brownsville-Haywood Co. Arts Council will be finishing out the Fall Festival week end with its Live on the Lawn concert on the lawn at College Hill. Sunday afternoon, Oct. 21, "The Waiting" will start playing at 3 p.m. This is a free concert for any & everyone - so bring your yard chairs and enjoy!!!!  Any questions, call 772-4883.

Lunch 'N Learn at the Library

Lunch and Learn is planned for Wednesday, October 24, at noon at the Elma Ross Public Library. Each month promises an interesting speaker and an opportunity to learn something new. This month’s special guest will be Tom Lea, of the Treasure Chest. Remember to bring your lunch and the library will provide your drink and dessert. Kimmie's Image Salon Open House

Kimmie's Image Salon has relocated across the street to 255 West Main, in the Shoppes of Smith Place, next door to Domino's. Everyone is invited to their Relocation Open House on Thursday, October 25, from 5-7 p.m.

Union Grove Annual Stew

Union Grove United Methodist Church will again sponsor its annual stew sale on Saturday, October 27. Stew is sold by pre-orders only and is available for $20 gallon (container is provided). To place your order call 772-4167 or 772-0804. Union Grove is located at 8118 Hwy. 70 East in the Union Community.
