Many braved the frigid weather Monday to participate in the
annual Martin Luther King Jr. march from old Carver School on Jefferson, up
Main Street and around the square. Before I could see them, I could hear
them, their voices raised high in song. Here are a few pictures of the event. The first session for the 2008 Tennessee Master Gardener class
begins Thursday evening at the Haywood County Extension office. If you
haven’t signed up already, it’s not too late. Just show up Thursday night.
Call the Extension office at 772-2861 for more info. Also, Thursday evening, January 31, at 7 p.m., learn how to
recognize illegal drugs and the symptoms of drug abuse at Bluff Creek Baptist
Church on Dr. Hess Road. The program is sponsored by East Haywood County
Neighborhood Watch (District 6). Everyone is invited. The Arts Council will present a very special program Saturday,
February 2. “A Brownsville Homecoming” will feature the talents of many local
folks performing your gospel favorites. Jennifer Simmons Milligan and Richard
Dickerson, from Woodmont Baptist Church in Nashville, will direct the production.
Tickets can be purchased at Insouth Bank, Livingston’s and at the door. Dr. Jim Byford will be the guest speaker at “Biofuels in West Tennessee” Tuesday night,
February 5, at the Delta Room behind Backyard Barbecue. A buffet dinner is
included with your ticket for this event. Call 779-1117 before January 31 for
reservations. February 9 is going to be a busy night in Brownsville. Two fun
events are planned for those wishing to treat their Valentine to a special
night. There will be a Valentine’s Ball at the National Guard Armory with
good food and dancing and all proceeds will benefit Relay for Life. Get your
ticket from any Relay team member or Chairperson Carolyn Flagg, 772-0425. At
the Country Club that night, start the evening with catfish and all the
trimmings and then stay for Blues star David Lee Durham at the “Catfish and the Blues” event. Don’t forget, early voting ends this Thursday, Jan. 31, at the
courthouse. ~ Sonia Share your upcoming 2008 events |
