Recipe of the Week: Tomato and Spinach Toss Don’t forget to “Spring Forward” tomorrow night when you go to bed.
Daylight Savings Time officially begins at 2 a.m., Sunday morning, so set
those clocks ahead one hour Saturday night. You certainly don’t want to be
late for anything next week. UT Extension is presenting two very interesting program on Thursday
night. If you love gardening, be at the Ann Marks theater to hear the
“gardening guru” Carol Reese. UT and The Family Resource Centers are also
kicking off their new program “Healthy Homes” Thursday night at Anderson.
Both programs are free. Haywood County Habitat for Humanity is inviting everyone to a
community meeting to discuss the chapter’s current and future direction
Tuesday, March 18, at College Hill. March 17-21 is Holy Week and noon services will be conducted at area
churches. Check the calendar for locations each day. If you have children 10 and under, and weather permitting, spend Saturday
morning, March 15, at Volunteer Park and participate in the annual Easter Egg
Hunt. It’s a lot of fun each year and Parks and Rec. has a big time putting
this on for the kids. Don’t forget to take healthy non-perishable food to Curves of
Brownsville this week. Jo Anne and Tara’s goal is to help raise 2,000 lbs. of
food locally for the food banks at the Carl Perkins Center and Mustard Seed. It’s still not too late to get your tickets for the Carl Perkins
Fabulous Fifties Dinner and Auction March 15. Call the center, 772-8378, for
details. If you are an avid hunter, you’ll be interested to learn that the
top website for Tennessee whitetail deer is now locally owned. Rad Ellington,

Benefit for Janice Greer Whittiemore A
benefit will be held Saturday, March 8, beginning at 11 a.m., at The Cypress
Hut on Hwy. 70 West in Stanton, TN, to help raise money for Janice Greer
Whittiemore. Whittiemore has been diagnosed with Wilson's Disease and
requires a liver transplant. She is currently #5 on the transplant list.
Barbecue plates will be available at 1:30 p.m. and a cake walk and auction
will also be held as part of the afternoon's events. For more information or
to make a donation, please call 731-548-6124. Singing Firefighter in Concert Everyone’s
favorite Singing Firefighter, David Smith, will be in concert Saturday, March
8, at Harmony Baptist Church, in the Hillville community. This is a benefit
singing for the church youth group. A fish supper will begin at 5 p.m., and
the gospel singing will begin at 6 p.m. Smith will also have his new CD
“Trophies of Grace” available. Arts Council presents “Smokey Joe’s Café” The Brownsville-Haywood County Arts Council will present The Art
Center of Cannon County in the production of "Smokey Joe's Cafe" on
Saturday, March 8 at the Ann Marks Performing Art Center, College Hill,
Brownsville, Tenn., at 7 p.m. The original Broadway production opened in 1995
and has toured extensively around the world. Nine performers sing the glories
of the Fifties in America.... one song at a time. Tickets are available at
Insouth Bank, Livingston's or at the door. Adults - $12.50; Students - $6.

Spaghetti Luncheon to Benefit Relay for Life The Haywood County Courthouse
Relay for Life team will host a Spaghetti Luncheon on Thursday, March 13,
from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., at the Parks & Rec. building at 100 Boyd Ave.
Plates are $6 each. Eat-in, Carry-out and delivery will be available. To
place an order, please call 772-6693 or fax order to 779-0104. All proceeds
will benefit Relay for Life. An Evening with Carol Reese The Haywood County Master Gardeners
and UT Extension present an evening with gardening "guru" Carol
Reese on Thursday, March 13, 6-8 p.m., at the Ann Marks Performing Arts
Center. Reese is a UT Area Specialist in Ornamental Horticulture at the West
Tennessee Research and Education Center in Jackson. She is known world-wide
for her witty personality and extensive knowledge of horticulture. Admission
is free and a must for any garden enthusiasts. Those who know Reese, know you
can never tire of her programs. Each presentation offers an opportunity to
learn and be entertained. Reese's talk will include tips and techniques to
make the most of your landscape, such as choosing the right plants and
structures. For more information about the program, please call the Extension
office at 772-2861. “Healthy Homes” comes to Anderson Nationally-known motivational
speaker Derrick Hayes will be the guest speaker at the kick-off of “Healthy
Homes,” sponsored by UT Extension and The Family Resource Centers. Hayes will
appear at Anderson Early Childhood Center on Thursday, March 13, at 6 p.m.
This is a free event and everyone is invited to come hear Hayes speak about
the "Power of Positive Thinking." For more information about the

Singing Firefighter to Perform at Senior Center Everyone is invited to hear David
Smith, The Singing Firefighter, Friday, March 14, at the Brownsville Senior Center.
He will perform at 10 a.m. and everyone is welcome to have lunch. If you do

Community-Wide Easter Egg Hunt Brownsville/Haywood
County Parks and Recreation’s Community Wide Easter Egg Hunt will be held
Saturday, March 15, at Volunteer Park. The fun begins at 10:30 a.m. Children
walking age up to 10 years are invited to participate in this annual event.
Eggs will be provided for small babies. Rain date will be March 22. Fabulous Fifties Dinner & Auction The Carl Perkins annual dinner
and auction will be held on Saturday, March 15, with the silent auction
beginning at 5:30 p.m. this year's theme is "Fabulous Fifties" and
will be held at the National Guard Armory on Morgan Street. Tickets are $80
per couple, $40 for individuals and $320 for a table of 8. Make your
reservations by calling the Carl Perkins Center at 731-772-8378. Chuck Wagon Gang in Concert On Saturday, March 15, at 7 p.m.,
the world famous Chuck Wagon Gang will be in concert at Calvary Baptist
Church, 624 Hatchie Ave. The group is celebrating 71 years of singing gospel
music. There is no charge for the event, but a love offering will be taken.

Toddler Time at the Library Toddler time at the Elma Ross
Public Library will be Monday, March 17, at 11 a.m. Parents are encouraged to
bring their toddlers and enjoy lots of stories, songs, puppets, crafts and a
snack. Holy Week Services The Haywood/Brownsville
Ministerial Alliance will once again host Holy Week Services beginning
Monday, March 17 through Friday, March 21. Services begin at 12 noon followed
by a light lunch at 12:30. The cost of lunch is $4 per person. The schedule
for the week is as follows: Monday, March 17 - Brownsville Baptist Church;
Tuesday, March 18 - Christ Episcopal Church; Wednesday, March 19 - First
Presbyterian Church; Thursday, March 20 - First Baptist Church; and Friday,
March 21 - First United Methodist Church. Everyone is welcome. |
