& Haywood County

May 16, 2008

Volume 4, Issue 19

We are so glad to have the 1175th back home. They arrived Tuesday around 1 p.m. Crowds gathered along Anderson, East Main and the Court Square to welcome them. The flags along Morgan Street leading to the Armory were quite a sight.

If you do not have access to high speed internet and live in Haywood County, or anywhere else in Tennessee, please complete this questionnaire. Connected TN is an organization working to get broadband internet access available to all rural areas. The initial meeting to kick-off the effort in Haywood County was in April. The next meeting will be May 27 at the chamber and everyone is welcome. Visit www.connectedtn.org to learn more about the initiative.

If you are a golfer, you’ll want to enter this year’s 10th Annual March of Dimes Golf Tournament to be held June 5 at the Country Club. Call 731-780-1328 to learn more about it and how to enter.

“Click It or Ticket” is in full swing this month and during the period from May 19-31, Brownsville Police will be paying special attention to those who are not buckled in. This effort is part of a program designed to help keep you safe. So be sure and buckle up to avoid a ticket.

Relay for Life will begin at 5 p.m., Friday, June 13. Opening ceremony will be at 7 p.m.; luminary ceremony at 10 p.m. and closing ceremony at 11:45 p.m. And lots of fun, food and entertainment will be happening in between. Carolyn Flagg tells me it’s not too late for teams and they are still asking for corporate sponsors. Call her at 772-0425.
