Volume 4, Issue 34

It’s hard to keep my thoughts straight right now as we head into September and a fall season packed with activities. The Hatchie Fall Fest is a little over a month away and final preparations are being made now. If you’d like to volunteer to help with this event or want to take part in the planning, please contact me.

The Brownsville Business Association (BBA) is working on some special holiday shopping events that will begin on Nov. 2 with a Holiday Open House, and then a spectacular 3-day “Holiday In Haywood” market-type event on Nov. 14-16, and finally a super downtown shopping day planned for Dec. 6, to coincide with the Christmas Parade. Plus, businesses need to start planning their holiday light and window displays for the annual lighting contest.

And speaking of the Christmas Parade. I don’t have any details other than the date, December 6, but I hope you will plan to participate. As soon as I know the theme, I will pass along the information. It’s been a long time since I’ve helped build a float and I may just have to try my hand at it again.

Don’t forget Season Tickets for the Arts Council’s 08-09 events are available now. The first show is coming up Sept. 20, “The Buddy Holly Story,” so go ahead and get your tickets now and avoid paying 20% more at the door. Season tickets are only $30. Call the Arts Council office at 731-772-4883.

Governor Phil Bredesen has declared the third week of September as Imagination Library Week in Tennessee. With only a little over half of Haywood County’s eligible children receiving their free book each month, Haywood County Reading Railroad is bumping up its efforts to educate and enroll the remaining children. If you know a child who is not enrolled in this program, please print a registration form or pick one up at the Library, Insouth Bank or First South Bank. Research has proven the benefits of being read to early, so let’s help make sure Haywood County children have every opportunity available.
