Volume 5, Issue 24

Into every life a little rain must fall and I guess that goes for Relay for Life, too. I’m wondering if we’ve had a Relay when it didn’t rain. The most memorable for me was held at the National Guard Armory. It was probably the second or third one and yes, it rained. I think it may have been moved to the armory at the last minute. I remember walking the luminary-lined course that wound through the big room and down the hall before circling back around. Everyone was crowded and cramped and having a blast. Each trip around the track you’d spot someone you knew and step off to chat. I don’t know how long it took to walk that circle, but there was never a dull moment. Relay has certainly grown since those early ones. This year’s committee is not being outdone, though. Mark your calendar –Relay for Life has been rescheduled for Friday, August 7.

I received this press release from Senator Dolores Gresham after our megasite/solar farm upheaval last week. I think our combined voices have made a difference this time. What do you think? Visit the AAB Blog and let’s talk about it.

You still have until next Friday, June 26, to order a Boston Butt ($30) from the Exchange Club. Call John Gallaspy, 731-772-6648, to order (and he has promised to deliver, too).

Here’s something I know you will be interested in. Haywood Park Community Hospital has announced the opening of its After-Hours Clinic. Medical help will now be available in the evenings and on weekends at the Specialty Clinic across from the Emergency Room. This will be the place to go when it’s not really an emergency, but you need help before a doctor’s office will be open. Hours are Tuesday – Friday from 3-11 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday from noon until 8 p.m. Learn more about Haywood After Hours Clinic.

The Chamber’s Kid’s Day is planned for July 15, from 10-3. Lots of work goes into providing this event for the children of Haywood County and lots of volunteers are needed. Call the chamber at 731-772-2193, to see how you can help. It might simply be a matter of baking a few dozen cookies. Give them a call.

There seems to not be much planned during the next couple of week. I think it’s the perfect time for me to take a little time off. Look for the next AAB the week of July 6. But I’m not going to leave you out in the cold completely. I will have some access to the computer during this time and will be updating the calendar and adding to the website. So keep a check and continue to let me know about your events. You may also be interested in an upcoming sales event and some local coupons found on the Business & Services page.
