Volume 6, Issue 2

Today and tomorrow are your last days to sign up for the YMCA-Haywood Park “Move it. Lose it.” Challenge. This is the where you and your team compete to lose the most weight and win $1,000 during an 8 week time frame. Here are the details.

The Arts Council will present Brownsville Homecoming III on Saturday, January 30, at the Ann Marks Performing Arts Center. This is the third year and I think each year this event gets more and more popular, and sells out fast. Tickets are $12.50 for adults and $6 for students. Get them in advance from Livingston’s or Insouth Bank main branch. Richard Dickerson and Jennifer Simmons Milligan are the directors and the program will feature gospel singing by Brownsville’s best.

If you like gospel singing, you might want to check out Boxful of Blessings January 23. It, too, will be at College Hill.

Have you thought about what you’ll do for Valentine’s this year? I hope you’ll consider taking your sweetheart to the annual Valentine’s Ball. This year’s date is Friday, February 12, at the National Guard Armory. It will feature food, fun and dancing. Tickets are $20 per person and all proceeds benefit Relay for Life. You can get a ticket from any Relay committee member or give me a call and I’ll make sure you get one.

We are implementing a new volunteer program at the Heritage Center. If you are interested in volunteer an hour or two to greet visitors and help with Center events, we are having a Volunteer Training on January 2, at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Call me, 731-779-9000, or e-mail to sign-up. It’s a great way to meet a lot of interesting people and to share your first hand knowledge of the area. I hope you can join us.
