Today has been declared a National Day of Prayer. Everyone is invited to meet on the courthouse lawn a little after noon today to join with millions around the world who will be praying for our leaders, our country and our world. I for one will be saying an extra ‘thank you’ for bringing us through this past weekend’s flood. As I said earlier in the week, this flood is something we will talk about for a long time. If your home flooded, or anyone you know, please contact Anne Banks at Brownsville City Hall so your name can be added to the FEMA list. A disaster application is being prepared now. If you were fortunate enough to have not been flooded
out and want to help, it seems that most people are asking for basic
necessities such as laundry detergent, personal hygiene products, such as
deodorant and toothpaste, and even undergarments. Donations of these items
can be dropped off at the County Mayor’s office in the courthouse to be distributed
to those in shelters. If you’d rather make a monetary donation, make checks
to Haywood County with “flood” on the memo line. Just a reminder that the Reception for Tamira Cole, Miss
Black Kentucky, has been cancelled due to flooding issues. And, this
weekend’s Haywood’s Got Talent time has changed to 2 p.m. It promises to be a
great show and lots of talent will be showcased. Winner of the competition
will perform at this year’s Hatchie Fall Fest. If you have a business and are interested in taking it
to a new level using social networking like facebook, twitter and others,
call 731-779-9000 and reserve a seat at the upcoming May 15 class at the
Heritage Center. Cost is $15 and is sponsored by the Brownsville Business
Association. Tomorrow morning is the ribbon cutting for the Park of
Dreams, an all-inclusive addition to Volunteer Park. Join everyone at 10
a.m., to cut the ribbon and officially declare the park open. DON’T FORGET! Next Friday night is the big night for Relay for Life. Things begin to happen at 5 p.m., followed by an opening ceremony, Survivor Walk, Luminary service and lots of entertainment. Make plans to be at the football field for this special night. ~ Sonia Join the Conversation: AAB Blog |
