& Haywood County October 28, 2010 Volume 6, Issue 39 |
|
The busy holiday season is beginning. As you look at the
calendar below you will see what I mean. If you haven't completed the UT Martin survey I sent out last week, please consider doing so. Many have .. and thank you. We need to show UT that we are serious about higher education. Several new events are planned this year. One is the
Carl Perkins' Festival of Trees. You'll be hearing more about this in the
weeks ahead. If you are a business and would like to enter a tree in this
event, please contact the Center at 731-772-8378. The public will be invited
to vote for their favorite tree and you could win a great prize. All the
proceeds of the event will benefit the Haywood County Carl Perkins Center. How would you like to see the Christmas Parade expanded into a Christmas Festival? We are working to offer you some fun activities to enjoy on the court square Saturday before parade time. I'll be telling you more soon. I hope you will plan to participate in the parade this year. Last year's was really spectacular and this year will be even bigger with your help and participation. Print an application and return to City Hall.
Local merchants are also looking at bringing back
Thursday night shopping during the weeks leading up to Christmas, complete
with carolers. If you think this is a good idea and would like the
opportunity to shop late, and locally, on these nights, please let your
favorite business owners know. But before all this happens, the 3rd Annual Holiday in
Haywood will take place November 12-14, at the National Guard Armory. This
has become a great opportunity to do your early Christmas shopping. This year
the kids can get their pictures made with Santa on Saturday and there will be
live music. Sunday a new activity has been added - an opportunity to have a
family portrait (or individual, group, organization, etc.) made for Christmas
cards, ornaments, and a great selection of other items that can be used for
gifts or mementos. Best of all no appointment is necessary. Of course, I'll
be sharing more details about this event during the next couple of weeks. If you enjoyed Mickey Utley at the Hatchie Fall Fest,
you might be interested to know that he is planning a concert at the Ann
Marks Theater Friday, November 26 - An Annual Thanksgiving Homecoming. Isn't
that a great idea? Not sure about ticket prices yet, but go ahead and save
the date. I'll let you know details as I get them. Don't forget Trick or Treat with Me this Friday.
Participating merchants are listed in the calendar below and are located
throughout town, even at the West TN Delta Heritage Center. Bring the kids
and enjoy a safe trick or treating experience. We have so much fun at this
event and it also gives the merchants an opportunity to give back to the
community. Early voting ends today, but hours have been extended to
give you a little extra time to get there. vote today from 9 a.m. until 6
p.m. Whether you've already voted, plan to vote today or waiting for the big
Election Day ... it's important that we all VOTE!!! Thank you to the Exchange Club, and everyone who bought
a flag in memory and honor of a loved one, for the beautiful display on our
courthouse lawn. I feel so proud when I see this. Another reason we should
all make sure we vote. A special Commemorative Ceremony is planned for
Veterans Day, November 11. ~ Sonia Join the Conversation: AAB Blog |
