Toddler Time at the Library: Toddler time at the Elma Ross Public Library will be Mondays, August 4 & 18, at 11 a.m. Parents are encouraged to bring their toddlers and enjoy lots of stories, songs, puppets, crafts and a snack. Lunch 'N Learn at the Library: Lunch and Learn is planned for Wednesday, August 27, at noon at the Elma Ross Public Library. Each month promises an interesting speaker and an opportunity to learn something new. Remember to bring your lunch and the library will provide your drink and dessert. Brownsville Business Association: The Brownsville Business Association will conduct it's regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, August 19, at 5:30 p.m. All members are urged to attend. Everyone is welcome. The meeting will be held at the Delta Room, 703 East Main St., behind Backyard Barbecue. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4838: Monthly meeting of veterans who have fought in foreign wars to conduct business and plan for future events that involve veterans or veteran's programs. Worship Through the Ages: The Brownsville Baptist Church Sanctuary Choir will present a concert of songs used throughout the ages to praise God. Everyone is invited and admission is free. Ribbon Cutting - Rayz Tanning & Boutique: The Brownsville-Haywood County Chamber of Commerce invites you to celebrate Rayz official Ribbon Cutting at their new location, 19 South Lafayette on the square (next door to Merle Norman Cosmetics & Gifts), at 10 a.m., Wednesday, August 6. Rayz offers affordable tanning packages and an assortment of the latest fashions. Give Blood: Give blood when the Lifeline Bloodmobile visits Brownsville Friday, August 15, from noon until 6 p.m. The Bloodmobile will be on the court square. All donors receive a cool t-shirt. Remember to bring a photo ID. Steak & Burger Dinner: The Brownsville Unit of the Boys & Girls Club will welcome former NBA star, and U of M Tiger player, Elliot Perry during its annual Steak & Burger Dinner Thursday, August 14, at 6 p.m. The dinner seats tables of eight, six members of the community with two kids from the Club, giving the community an opportunity to meet the children and see first hand the work and results of the programs offered by the Boys & Girls Club. Dance Class Registration for girls 3 & up: The Martin Dance Studio, located in the WOW building, will be conducting registration for fall semester dance classes for girls on Friday, August 8, from 2-7 p.m. Sign-ups will take place at the W.O.W. Building on Boyd Avenue, across from the Parks and Recreation Department. Classes begin August 15. STEMC Annual Meeting: The annual members meeting of Southwest Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation will be held Friday, August 8, at the College Hill Center, 127 Grand Ave. Member registration and dinner begins at 6 p.m., the business meeting beginsa at 7, followed by entertainment and drawing for door prizes. Renewed Gospel Ministries will perform and over 50 door prizes will be given away. Dinner includes free hotdogs, chips drinks, pies and ice cream. Exchange Club Butts for Labor Day: The Exchange Club is taking orders for Charlie Christian hickory-smoked Boston Butts until Friday, August 22. Place your order by calling the Chamber at 772-2193. The Butts are $30 and payment must accompany the order. They can be picked up, hot off the smoker, on Friday, Aug. 29 between 5 and 6 p.m., in the WOW parking lot. Breakfast for Babies: Enjoy breakfast at RJ's Hibachi on Thursday, August 21 from 6 - 10 a.m. Featuring "Celebrity" waiters/waitresses, music by local talents, door prizes, giveaways and more. All tips and a portion of breakfast proceeds will go to the March of Dimes March ofr Babies Campaign. Meet the 2008 Haywood County Ambassador Anna Evans, daughter of Kelvin and Karol Evans. RJ's Hibachi is located at 471 N. Dupree. Miss Brownsville Belle Pageant: Boys and girls ages 0-3 yrs and girls up to age 21 can compete for honors during the Miss Brownsville Belle Pageant to be held Saturday, August 16, at the Ann marks Performing Arts Center. Entry fee is $40 and includes Best Hair, Best Dressed, Best Smile, Best Personality, Best model and Most Photogenic. Attire is formal or Sunday best. Trophies and crowns will be awarded. Learn how to contract with local, state and federal government: The Tennessee Small Business Development Center and the Brownsville-Haywood County Chamber of Commerce will host a free seminar on August 13, from 9 a.m .until noon in the Chamber conference room to teach businesses how to contract with local, state and federal governments. Community Forum: The Tennessee School Boards Association will host a Community Forum at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 19, 2008, at the Ann Marks Performing Arts Center. Dr. Tammy Grissom, Executive Director of the Tennessee School Boards Association, will lead the group discussion designed to determine your views about the issues and challenges facing our school system and Director. This is our chance to voice our concerns and give input into the direction of selecting a Director of Schools. Caregiver Support Group: Cindy Wilkins from the Haywood County Health Dept. will conduct a Caregivers seminar and support group Monday, August 25, at the Brownsville Senior Center beginning at 10 a.m. All caregivers are invited to attend. Stew & Barbecue: Holly Grove Baptist Church will host its annual stew and BBQ chicken on Saturday, August 23rd at noon. You are invited to have a lunch of stew or BBQ chicken, dessert, and drink for a donation of $6.00 or bring your own container and take stew home for $6.00 per quart or $18.00 per gallon or BBQ chicken half for $3.00. This effort is a part of United Way’s 2008 Days of Action. Items needed include, but are not limited to, number 2 pencils, book bags, crayons, dry cereal, canned foods and soups and diapers and formulas.
