Toddler Time at the Library: Toddler time at the Elma Ross Public Library will be held Monday March 2 & 16, at 11 a.m. Parents are encouraged to bring their toddlers and enjoy lots of stories, songs, puppets, crafts and a snack. Toddler time will only be offered once during the month of January. Lunch 'N Learn at the Library: Lunch and Learn is planned for Wednesday, March 25, at noon at the Elma Ross Public Library. Each month promises an interesting speaker and an opportunity to learn something new. Remember to bring your lunch and the library will provide your drink and dessert. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4838: Monthly meeting of veterans who have fought in foreign wars to conduct business and plan for future events that involve veterans or veteran's programs. Memphis Symphony Orchestra: The Brownsville Haywood County Arts Council will present the Memphis Symphony Orchestra in concert Saturday, March 7, at the Ann Marks Performing Arts Center. The program of "Familiar Classics" will showcase works that will appeal to all ages and will begin at 7:30 p.m. An additional component to the Symphony event involves the Arts Council and Art teachers in 5 of our schools. Students will listen to a short selection of Mozart's Symphony # 40 and visually interpret the selection on paper. Thirty entries will be chosen as finalists and exhibited at the Concert. Everyone is cordially invited to a dessert party immediatelly following the Concert at College Hill Center. Tickets are $12.50 adults. $6.00 students, and are available at INSOUTH Bank, Livingston's, from Board members and at the door; or a row of 11 seats can be purchased for $10 each. If you want to learn about all aspects of gardening and landscaping, this is the class for you. The class is taught on Thursday evenings at the Haywood County Agriculture Building, 100 South Wilson, Brownsville. Remaining class dates are Mar. 5, Mar. 12, Mar. 19 and Mar. 26. Free Weight Management Classes: Curves of Brownsville, 317 West Main St., is offering a free weight management classes on Saturday, March 14, at 10 a.m. Classes are taught by Curves' Registered Dietician Nadia Rodman and facilitated by weight management coaches from Curves of Brownsville. Sobriety Checkpoints set for St. Patrick’s Weekend: The St. Patrick’s Day weekend has historically been accompanied by increased traffic, and unfortunately, increases in serious traffic crashes. Many of which have been alcohol related. It is the plan of local authorities to insure the safety of the citizens of Brownsville and Haywood County. Officers of the Brownsville Police Department and the Haywood County Sheriff’s Department will be teaming up. Joint enforcement activities will begin on Friday, March 13, at 8 p.m., and end Sunday, March 15, at 2 a.m. Activities will include sobriety checkpoints, and DUI saturations. Officers will concentrate their enforcement efforts on removing impaired drivers from the roadways. However as non-compliance with the safety belt and child restraint laws place people in danger, these laws will be vigorously enforced as well. Back to Calendar Hatchie NWR Work Day: The Hatchie National Wildlife Refuge is having a Work Day Saturday, March 21, from 8 11:30 a.m. The focus of this work day will be three fold: 1) landscaping around the entrance and HQ, just mulch this time, 2) trim trees along Oneal Lake, and 3) pick up trash around the Check Station/new Youth Fishing Lake and Oneal Lake. What you’ll need: leather glove and work boots or knee boots; what to bring if you have them: pitch forks and wheel-barrows. The Refuge will provide trash bags, water, mulch, trailer to haul limbs and trash etc. Families are invited and encouraged. Please RSVP to 731/772-0501, ext. 222 if you can help. Boston Butt Sale: The Brownsville Fire Department is selling Boston Butts for their Relay Fundraiser. The butts will be smoked and ready for pick-up April 4 after 9 a.m. All must be pre-ordered by going by the Fire Department beside City Hall. Cost is $25. Last day to order is Sunday, March 29. All proceeds will benefit Relay for Life. Jimmy's Tire Service Ribbon Cutting: Jimmy's Tire Service has moved to 312 South Washington (old Brownsville Tire Building). The Chamber of Commerce will host a Ribbon Cutting Wednesday, March 25, at 10 a.m. Jimmy Coulston is the owner. Everyone is invited to attend and welcome Jimmy's to town. Friends of the Library Annual Meeting: The Friends of the Elma Ross Public Library will be hosting their Annual Meeting on Tuesday, March 31, at 6:00 p.m. A light buffet will be served. The cost for the meal is $7.00. Reservations are required. The guest speaker for the event will be Mr. Marlon King, Superintendent of Haywood County Schools. Your membership, be it new or a renewal, is very important for the continuation of the Library's many services. The Friends group primarily supports children's programs, books-on-tape, large-print books, and best-seller subscriptions. Your commitment is needed to enable us to continue these programs. Membership dues vary in amounts from $1.00 for a student membership to a $1,000.00 life membership. Please consider becoming or renewing your Friends membership today. TNT- Tuesday Night Teaching: Every Tuesday night during the month of March and April, a Bible Study will be offered at the Riverbrook Apartments Community Room, 43 Riverbrook Cove, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. This event is a community Bible study that allows anyone in the community to seek answers to difficult questions. Everyone is invited to attend. There is no cost. Refreshments are served immediately following the event. Riverbrook Apartments are located off of Watkins Street.
