Businesses “Light-Up” for the Holidays

Brownsville businesses are showing their holiday spirit this year with bold, festive and fun storefront light displays.

Fourteen area businesses rose to the challenge and donned their most glittery Christmas finery to compete in the Brownsville Business Associations (BBA) 1st Annual Lighting Contest. The theme was “Brownsville Lights” and businesses were asked to “light-up the night sky with the glow of the holidays.”

Competition was stiff and after viewing each display several times, the winners have been chosen. They are Morris Jewelers (1st place), Sugar Palace (2nd place) and Curves of Brownsville (3rd place).

According to BBA Secretary Sonia Outlaw-Clark, the association is pleased with the first year’s participation. “The judges were very impressed with the thought and creativity that went into each display,” says Outlaw-Clark. “It was fun to see how each businesses personality was reflected in its decorations.”

While the competition is over, other businesses are asked to follow suit and “light-up” their windows, too. “We want people to shop at home this year and what better way to encourage that than to offer a festive and fun atmosphere.”

Many merchants are staying open late Thursday nights in December and it’s the perfect time to enjoy the displays while discovering all that Brownsville has to offer this holiday season.
