Planning of this year’s festival has been underway since January and committee members are busy confirming the activities that will be taking place at the 2007 Hatchie Fall Fest on October 20. Among the pre-festival events is the favorite Scarecrow Contest and back by popular demand is the Bunko Tournament.
Thirty-nine entries in the 2006 Scarecrow Contest created
lots of excitement on the courthouse lawn during the weeks leading up to the
festival. “The creativity last year was astonishing. The judges voted three
times before breaking all the tie breakers while trying to choose a winner,”
says Master Gardener Sonia Outlaw-Clark. The Haywood County Master Gardeners
are again sponsoring this year’s contest to be held on Saturday, October 13.
Entry forms are now available on their website: www.haywoodmastergardeners.com
or can be picked up at the Haywood Extension Office, 100 South Wilson.
Last year’s Bunko Tournament turned out to be a great
success and is now an annual event during festival week. Bunko players are
invited to gather at the Brownsville Country Club Thursday, June 18, for an
evening of fast-moving fun and all proceeds will benefit the Brownsville Haywood
County Humane Society.
As usual, festival day promised something for every member
of the family. For exercise enthusiasts, the 15th Review Club’s 5K
Run/Walk will begin at 8 a.m. All Care Chiropractic will again sponsor the Cake
and Pie Baking Contest at 10 a.m., and even your family pets can enjoy the
festival by participating in the Humane Society’s Pet Show and Blessing of the
Pets at 10:30.
If you are not a pie or cake baker, maybe Gumbo is your
passion. E. W. James will sponsor the annual Gumbo Cooking Contest at 2 p.m.
and the Crockett Mini-Pullers invite you to join them at 5 p.m., for the
Mini-Tractor Pull at the Boyd Ave. arena.
All day on the square you will find children’s activities,
carriage rides and a train display, just to name a few. Some of your favorite
entertainers are also back, including the HHS Show Choir, The Singing Fireman
and Blues Berry Jam Band.
Mark your calendar now for October 20 and join your
friends and neighbors for a fun-filled day on the court square.
