Nunn Graduates from Tennessee Governor’s School

William Nunn, son of Alice and Jim Nunn of Brownsville, graduated June 29, 2007, from the 4th Tennessee Governor's School for the Agricultural Sciences (TGSAS). The TGSAS was held on the campus of the University of Tennessee at Martin and began on May 27.

Thirty-four young men and women from across Tennessee were part of the program. Students lived on campus, taking college level courses as well as participating in field trips. One of the highlights was a trip to Chicago, Illinois, where the scholars toured the Chicago Board of Trade, the Federal Reserve Bank and the Field Museum. First State Bank provided tickets for the 34 scholars and chaperones to a Chicago Cubs game on June 15.

The TGSAS is one of nine Governors Schools offered by the Tennessee Department of Education for gifted and talented high school students. These programs provide challenging and intensive learning experiences in these disciplines: Arts, Humanities, International Studies, Engineering, Science, Prospective Teachers, Scientific Exploration of Tennessee Heritage, Information Technology Leadership, and Agricultural Science. Students enrolled in the Tennessee Governor's Schools receive six hours of college credits for their efforts.

Nunn will be a senior at Haywood High School and plans to attend the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
