Hopson to speak at annual Steak N’ Burger Dinner

The Boys and Girls Club, Brownsville Unit, has announced Dr. Cynthia Bond Hopson will be the guest speaker at this year’s Steak N’ Burger dinner. The fundraising event will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, August 30, at the Boys & Girls Club, Carver High Gymnasium, on East Jefferson St.

Empowering Children to Achieve is this year’s theme.

The Steak N’ Burger event introduces guests to members of the Club and treats each child to a delicious steak dinner. While guest dine on hamburgers, they are entertained by the children with musical performances and skits.

This year, attendees will also get the opportunity to meet Dr. Hopson.

Hopson, a Haywood County native, has written many thought-provoking and inspirational columns, feature articles, and speeches. Perhaps she is best known locally for her books “Wiggle Tales, A Collection of Hopson’s Haywood Columns from the Brownsville States Graphic,” and “Times of Challenge and Controversy: Voter Registration in Haywood County, 1960-1961.”

Hopson currently serves as Assistant General Secretary of the Black College Fund and Ethnic Concerns for the United Methodist Board of Higher Education and Ministry in Nashville, Tennessee.

Tables and individual tickets are available by contacting the Boys and Girls Club at 731-772-0552, or any B&G Club board member. All funds raised during this event will be used to continue programs offered by the Boys & Girls Club, Brownsville Unit.
