What started with a $10,000 donation from the Evelyn
Naylor Estate has become one of Haywood County’s most successful United Way
Campaigns.
When the 2006-2007 United Way campaign began back in
October 2006, it received the generous jump-start from the Naylor Estate and
never slowed down. With a goal of $169,300, committee members committed to make
this year’s campaign a success.
That commitment, significant increases from industry and a
more community-aware campaign has led to this year’s total contributions of
$204, 704.48.
Most areas showed increases in giving with the most
significant coming from the industrial community. Most notably, Lasco Fittings
exceeded its previous giving by 67% and Dynametal Technologies increased 78%.
Now it’s the responsibility of the Volunteer Community
Investment Teams to determine where the money is invested and distribution of
the funds will begin in July. Haywood County United Way funded 22 local service
agencies last year.
The Board and Cabinet’s hard work, local commitments from
industry, business and individual donors and dedication of the West Tennessee
United Way’s Jennifer Wood and Debbie Todd all contributed to this record
breaking year.
