United Way of West
Tennessee Looking for Volunteers to Participate in ‘2008 Days of Action’
Staring August 10
through August 17, the United Way of West Tennessee will declare their
intention to improve lives in measurable and lasting ways by mobilizing thousands
of people in West Tennessee around a common goal: advancing the common good and
making a difference in the community we live in. This week will be called ‘2008 Days of Action’
“Across the Nation, United Ways are having
‘Days of Action’ and finding ways to help the communities they live in,” stated
Alan H Turner II, President/CEO of the United Way of West Tennessee. “Our ‘2008 Days of Action’ will
hopefully create a ripple, which in turn will create a lasting change in many
peoples’ lives. We invite everyone to be part of the change. Our goal is to have West Tennesseans perform more than
10,000 volunteer hours with the ten counties the United Way of West Tennessee
represents. “
If
volunteers do not have a project or task to work on the United Way office will
try to connect them with a group or organization they can help. The first 1,500
registered volunteers will receive a free ‘Live United’ t-shirt.
Along with volunteers, the United Way is
asking for ideas for projects that volunteers can assist in completing during
the week of August 10th through August 17th. If you or your organization has ideas
please contact the United Way office.
“Give an hour. Give a
Day,” stated Harrell Carter, Chariman of the United Way of West Tennessee.
“There are plenty of things we can do to help. And when we reach out a hand to
one, we influence the condition of all.”
Whether it’s reading to
children, or leading financial literacy classes for hard-working families, or
delivering meals to homebound seniors, there are hundreds of volunteer options
available every day. Give the gift of you. Volunteer.
“We already have
commitments from volunteers in every county, including teams from factories,
groups of friends and individuals,” stated Mr. Turner. “Whether you can work on a big project
or volunteer to do something nice for someone you never meet, let us know.”
On August 17th, at 3 p.m., The United Way of
West Tennessee invites all that participate in the ‘2008 Days of Action’ to
join them at Pringles Park in Jackson, TN to celebrate everyone’s efforts. They will be highlighting member
organizations that they work with year round, presenting awards to groups and
organizations who volunteered, and hosting a lunch as a way of saying
thanks. This event will be wrapping
up their ‘2008 Days of Action’ will also lead into their 2008 Campaign
Kick-off.
