Southern Gospel meets Country Spiritual June 19
The West
Tennessee Delta Heritage Center, in Brownsville, Tenn., announces a free summer
concert Saturday, June 19, on the porch of the Sleepy John Estes home.
“Southern Gospel meets Country Spiritual” will begin at 6 p.m., and features
the sounds of David Smith and George Parchman.
Parchman, a Humboldt native who now lives in Jackson, best describes
his music style as “ bluesy and witty, coupled with a spiritual overtone.”
Attendees will recognize songs such as “In the Wake of a Hurricane” and
“Steve.”
Known locally as the Singing Firefighter, Smith loves to sing the old
southern gospel favorites like “How Great Thou Art” and “In the Garden,” mixed
with more modern tunes such as “What Kinda Car.”
“We invite everyone to come out,
grab a picnic at one of the nearby restaurants and enjoy an evening on the
grounds of the Center,” says Heritage Center Director Sonia Outlaw-Clark.
The museums will be open during
the event and each artist will be honored with a special display in the
Center’s lobby. CDs will also be available for purchase.
This event is one the entire
family will enjoy. There will be some bleacher seating and attendees are also
encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and blankets. Popcorn and drinks will
also be available.
