Sugar Creek’s 4th Annual Postcard Contest

January is “Postcard Month” at Sugar Creek Retirement Center. During the annual tradition started four years ago, residents compete to see how many postcards they can collect. The trick — they must all come via the mail and must be received during the month of January.

Residents ask, “everyone they know and half the people they don't know to send them a postcard,” according to Activity Director Shirley Tucker. Prizes are awarded to the one who receives the most, but there are also awards for the prettiest, the weirdest, the funniest, the farthest away and other categories, too.

Last year 22 residents received about 1500 postcards. The farthest came from Australia. “It’s amazing,” says Tucker, “to see where they all come from.”

It’s also fun, but obviously a feat that requires help. Tucker invites everyone to mail a postcard to your friends or family living at Sugar Creek. Want to participate, but not sure you know someone there? Call Tucker at 731-772-1616 for information.
