Banks receives Hero/Volunteer of the Year Award

The first recipient of the annual People’s Community Organization Hero/Volunteer of the Year Award is Webb F. Banks, Mayor of Brownsville. Banks, who served in the Air Force from 1955 – 1977, was recognized for his service to our country, his entrepreneurship and his civil service to this community at a banquet held Friday night, May 26, 2006.

Banks' tour of duty in the Air Force included serving as Chief of Logistics for Air Force Special Investigations in Washington, D.C., Chief Negotiator for Wartime Agreement in Europe and Vietnam. While serving, he also received many commendations. Among them are the Bronze Star, three Legion of Merit, Joint Command Commendation medals and two Air Commendation medals.

Banks has also enjoyed a successful career as a local businessman and served as mayor of Brownsville for the past 12 years. The People's Community Organization chose Banks for his numerous years of service and dedication to making Brownsville and the surrounding communities a better place to live.
