Weyerhaeuser Reports United Way Totals

United Way has a solid partner in Haywood County, Tennessee. Weyerhaeuser continues to support the United Way family. In their 2006 campaign, employees pledged over $1,500.

“Our team members are a very caring group of people,” said Alonda Sweat, Weyerhaeuser. “We’re a small company, and the support from United Way made our effort successful. When our folks heard stories about how United Way has really changes lives in Haywood County, it made giving an easy choice.”

“Weyerhaeuser has set an example for other companies thinking about running a United Way campaign,” said Alan Callery, Haywood County’s 2006-07 United Way campaign co-chairperson. “Without fail, when people learn how United Way works and that the money stays in Haywood County, they willingly give. It is one of the best ways to make this a stronger, healthier place to live. I encourage other companies to follow Weyerhaeuser’s lead and to let their employees support United Way.”

Under the direction of Will Jones, Haywood County raised more than $167,000 in its 2005-06 United Way campaign. That money is being invested in 22 agencies and programs that are meeting the most important needs of Haywood County. Those agencies and programs include Boys & Girls Club, the Ben Rich Center, WRAP, and the Brownsville-Haywood County Rescue Squad.

Through United Way, individual pledges and payroll deduction campaigns are combined to create a fund that supports health and human service programs and agencies serving the area. Local volunteers decide where funds are invested by carefully reviewing applicant agencies that believe in children and youth, empower people with disabilities, care for the elderly, meet basic and emergency needs, and strengthen families.
