Volume 2, Issue 45

I’d like to say a personal thank you to Brownsville Radio and the sponsors of the broadcast Friday of the Veteran’s Day/Field of Flags ceremony. I could not be there, but listened to what I could on the radio. Thank you for allowing me that option. I’m sure there were many who couldn’t attend who were thankful to have this option. Speaking of the flags, the courthouse lawn looks so bare. It’s time to get our Christmas trees out and start decorating again for our annual “Courtsquare Christmas.” And don’t forget to place a single clear candle in your windows before December 2. The chamber is once again sponsoring their Christmas tree and lighting contests and entry forms are available there. Call 772-2193 for details. Many merchants and businesses along the parade route are planning to stay open all day Saturday, Dec. 2, and up until parade time at 6 p.m. So plan to do a little Christmas shopping while waiting for the parade to start. Also for your convenience, area businesses are planning to be open until 7 p.m., on Thursday nights in December. No excuse not to shop Brownsville this holiday season. A little elf has told me the Enchanted Forest will be open again and don’t tell the kids, but Santa will be there, too.

This week’s All About Brownsville is a two-in-one issue, as I will be out of town next week. I hope you will enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday and remember all that we have to be thankful for here in Haywood County.

I’ll talk to you again on December 1.

Sonia

Christmas Basket fundraiser

It’s time for the annual Christmas Basket Fundraiser held each year to raise money for food baskets given to needy families in our community. It’s a collaborative effort between our local radio station WTBG 95.3 (Brownsville Radio) and our County Mayor Franklin Smith. The radiothon will begin at 7:15 a.m., Friday morning, December 1. Paul Jackson will be on hand to host, along with County Mayor Franklin Smith and the whole Brownsville Radio crew. Call 731-772-3500 or 772-3200 to pledge your donation to this worthwhile project. Volunteers are always needed to help deliver these baskets as well. Contact the County Mayor’s office to volunteer your time. Last year the event raised over $25,000 in just a few hours.

Gingerbread Family Night

You can always tell the holidays are just around the corner when the Elma Ross Public Library hosts it “Gingerbread Family Night.” This year’s event is scheduled for Friday, December 1, at 7 p.m. Everyone always enjoys this family event that allows you to build your very own Gingerbread house while listening to the popular story of the Gingerbread Boy. Space is limited and reservations are required. There is a small fee of $1 per house to help offset the cost of materials. Call now to reserve your spot, 772-9534.
