Recipe of the week: Mexican Cornbread

Labor Day weekend will offer an educational opportunity for the whole family when Clinton Family Farms opens their operation to the public during the yearly harvest. You’ll be able to watch them make sorghum, from beginning to end. Learn more about sorghum making and the farm.

Christ Episcopal Church will mark a special milestone in the history of their church on Saturday and everyone is invited to share in the celebration beginning at 11 a.m.

A new museum and cultural center will open next Saturday at the old Carver building on East Jefferson. But before then, the Boys & Girls Club, also located on the Carver campus, will hold its annual Steak N’ Burger Dinner. There are tickets still available. Call 772-0552, to reserve your seat. Dr. Cynthia Bond Hopson will be the guest speaker.

Christ Episcopal 175th Anniversary Celebration

You are cordially invited to worship with Christ Episcopal Church during its 175th Anniversary Celebration Eucharist. Service will begin at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 25. Concert of Praise

The Sanctuary Choir of Brownsville Baptist Church will present a Concert of Praise on Sunday, August 26, at 6:30 p.m., at the church. The concert will consist of some of the choir's favorite pieces as well as several exciting new songs. The public is invited to attend this free concert. Brownsville Baptist Church is located on West Main Street and Wilson Ave.

Relay for Life Team Captains Meeting

Monday, August 27, 5:15 - 6 p.m. "Back to School, Back to Relay" is the theme of the August meeting. All new Relay for Life Teams and veteran teams are welcome as we begin another year of Relay for Life in Haywood County. All interested, please attend. Disaster Preparedness

Grainger will be at Haywood Park Community Hospital Tuesday, August 28th, from 9 a.m. until noon to train on how to set up and use the hospital disaster equipment. This is in preparation for the chemical spill drill on September 12. The drill will involve the whole community. Any one who would like to participate is this training is welcome. For more information, contact the hospital at 772-8411.

Steak N' Burger

Empowering Children to Achieve is the theme of this year's annual Steak N' Burger Dinner to benefit the Boys & Girls Club, Brownsville Unit. Dr. Cynthia Bond Hopson will be the guest speaker for this very special evening August 30 at 6 p.m. Each table will feature 6 guests and 2 kids from the Club. Adults will dine on burger and the children will enjoy steak. Gold ($500), Silver ($400) and Bronze ($300) Tables are available, as well as individual tickets ($30). Neighborhood Watch Organizational meeting

There will be an organizational Neighborhood Watch meeting for persons living in District 6 at Holly Grove Baptist Church on Thursday, August 30 at 7 p.m. Everyone interested in learning more about the neighborhood watch program for the community is invited to attend. Museum and Cultural Center

The Dunbar-Haywood County Training Center-Carver High School Alumni Association invites everyone to the ribbon cutting and grand opening of the new Museum and Cultural Center at the Carver campus, 709 East Jefferson. Ribbon cutting is at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow Saturday, September 1, 2007.
