I could not believe the weather Saturday
night. It was so nice to not be freezing while watching the floats and bands
go by. I want to commend the Rescue Squad on a great job. Yes, the parade did
not last long, but those that participated did a great job on their entries.
Did you notice more evidence of the Christmas spirit this year? I did. Instead
of tossing candy, everyone was waving and wishing onlookers “Merry
Christmas.” Change is good, especially when it reminds us what it’s all
about. And the kids did get their candy. Thank you to those who walked along
the route and handed it out. I am learning that it is terribly hard to
judge an event or competition in Haywood County. No one half does anything
around here. Thankfully my job during this year’s business lighting contest
was only to accompany the judges and direct them to the entrant’s place of
business. Good thing, too. Because the competition was unbelievable.
Congratulations to the winners: Morris Jewelers (1st), Sugar
Palace (2nd) and Curves of Brownsville (3rd). Great crowd turned out for the reception
honoring the work of Kevin Sanders Nov. 29, at First South Bank. Bob Bond
tells me the event was planned during his trip to Italy this year where he
visited with Kevin and Jimmy Sanders. The Sanders, both from Brownsville, now
live in Florence. Kevin’s paintings are still on display at the bank’s main
branch on West Main and many are for sale. If you haven’t had the chance to
view Kevin’s work, you will definitely want to stop by and see the works of
this very talented artist. It’s not too late to sponsor a candle or
star in the courthouse windows. This annual fundraiser benefits the
Brownsville Unit, Boys and Girls Club. You can give in honor or memory of
loved ones and a special recognition will appear in the Brownsville States
Graphic after Christmas. Windows of Hope Sponsorship Form If you are the cook at your house, you might
want to think about ordering your Christmas turkey or ham already smoked and
ready to eat. Birth Choice is hosting a holiday meat sale. You can order a
turkey (10-12 lbs, $28), ham (7-9 lbs., $28), pork tenderloin (4-5 lbs.,
$23), or half ($5) and whole chicken ($8). Your orders have to be in by
Monday, December 17 for pick-up on Friday, December 21. Call Leslie Phillips
at 772-2157 or 731-616-5210. ~ Sonia |
