Monday we will
honor the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I haven’t heard anything
about the annual march. It normally takes place around 10 a.m., and follows a
route from the old Carver school on Jefferson to the court square. If you
know about the plans, please let me know and I will add it to the Community
Calendar. I have a correction to something I said last week. Carolyn Flagg is not the first woman to hold a position on the Board of Alderman. Mary Jones filled the unexpired term of her husband, Fred T. Jones, when he passed away. I believe this was during the early 1980s. Please continue
to send in recipes. Everyone seems to be enjoying this, especially me. I
can’t wait to try this week’s recipe from Janet Lewis. Janet says she made
this miniature cheesecake-like recipe a lot when her children were growing up
and I sure am glad she decided to revive it and share with us. Try “Little Bits,” for yourself and see if they taste as good as they sound. E-mail your favorite recipes here. Haywood County
Reading Railroad has been busy the last few months working to increase the
number of children who receive free books. Since its inception in 2004,
Reading Railroad has distributed 15,907 books to Haywood County children
under the age of five. That’s pretty impressive. To date, 67% of this
county’s eligible children are receiving their free book each month. But that
also means there are still approx. 400 children who are not. Learn more about
Reading Railroad, and if you know a child who is eligible, help sign them up for
this very worthwhile program. ~ Sonia |
