If you haven’t marked your calendar yet, this year’s Relay for Life is set for Friday night, June 8. There are lots of activities planned between now and then including “Flocked for a Cure.” Yes, the pink flamingos are back. If you’d like to flock someone ($10) or be de-flocked ($10), call Insouth Bank Relay for Life Team at 779-1141 or 779-1157.

 

The Brownsville Business Association will celebrate a milestone this Tuesday when it meets for its One Year Anniversary. The association officially started March 2006, and is now over 95 members strong. These businesses represent all areas of the community and boasts retail, service, professional and individual members. So if you have any interest at all in the business outlook of our community, please join the celebration Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., and learn what all the excitement is about. And don’t forget to SHOP BROWNSVILLE FIRST!!!

Spring Break begins Monday. I’m taking a cue from the school system and taking a little spring break, too. I’ve tried to cover all that I know about for the next two weeks and I’ll see you again on Friday, March 30.

 

Spend Tuesdays with Morrie this Saturday and have a fun St. Patrick’s Day. Don’t forget Vacation Bible School at Poplar Corner Baptist Church this coming week.

Everyone loves Morrie!

Morrie comes to the Ann Marks Performing Arts Center on Sat., March 17, for one performance only beginning at 7 p.m. This is the autobiography of Mitch Albom and his college professor Morrie Schwartz. Tickets bought in advance entitles you to a light buffet supper in College Hill Center starting at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are available at Livingston's, Insouth Bank Main Branch and by calling the Arts Council office at 731-772-4883.

Spring Break for Haywood County Schools

                       

Toddler Time at the Library

If you have small ones, don’t miss Toddler Time at the Elma Ross Library Monday, Mar. 19, beginning at 11 a.m. Parents are encouraged to bring their toddlers and enjoy lots of stories, songs, puppets, crafts and a snack.

 

Vacation Bible School  ALL WEEK

Poplar Corner Baptist Church will conduct a special Vacation Bible School during the week of Spring Break, March 19-23, 2007. The theme is "Game Day Central — Where HEROES are Made!" VBS will begin at 6 p.m. each night. Ages are babies through 6th grade. For more information, call the church at 731-772-0950 or Jenny Douglas, VBS Director, at 731-772-6988. Poplar Corner Baptist Church is located at 1010 Boyd Avenue. The church office is open from 8-4, Monday–Thursday.

Relay for Life Spaghetti Lunch

Insouth Bank’s annual Spaghetti Lunch will be Tuesday, March 20, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., at the Insouth Bank Operations Center, 180 Peachtree Plaza. Lunch will include spaghetti, slaw, roll and dessert for $6. All proceeds go to Relay for Life. You can eat-in, carry out or have your lunch delivered. Brownsville Business Association Anniversary Meeting

The Brownsville Business Association (BBA) will meet on Tuesday, March 20 at 5:30 p.m., at the Delta Room behind Backyard Barbecue, 703 East Main St. This is a special meeting and all members are urged to attend. The meeting is open to the public and any business or individual interested in business in Brownsville and Haywood County is encouraged to attend. This month marks the 1 year anniversary of the BBA. Over 90 members strong and growing, the BBA is working together to make a difference in the community. More about the BBA.

 

Saturday, March 24

 

Hypertufa Workshop

Willow Oaks Flower Farm, 2351 Hwy. 54 N, will host a Hypertufa Workshop on Saturday, March 24 at 1 p.m. Cost for the class is $15 and covers materials. Registration is required by March 20. Hypertufa containers are made from a mixture of cement, peat, perlite and water. The experience will bring back memories of making mud pies; only these containers will last much longer. Gospel Singing and Fish Supper

There will be a benefit gospel singing and fish supper at Harmony Baptist Church on Saturday, March 24. Supper begins at 5 p.m. and The Singing Fireman will perform at 6:30 p.m. Donations will be accepted for supper and an offering will be collected during the singing. Lunch 'N Learn at the Library

Lunch and Learn is planned for Wednesday, March 28, at noon at the Elma Ross Public Library. Each month promises an interesting speaker and an opportunity to learn something new. Crop Production Services Relay Cookout

Crop Production Services on Prospect Lane (Bypass) will host a cook out on Thursday, March 29, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Chicken Leg Quarter Plates will be available and includes beans, slaw and roll for $6. Friday, March 30

 

Legislative Update

There will be a Legislative Update presented by the Brownsville Haywood County Chamber of Commerce on Friday, March 30 at 8:30 a.m. House Speaker Jimmy Naifeh and Senator John Wilder will speak and answer questions. Attorney David Livingston will provide refreshments for the event. The public is invited. For more information, contact the chamber at 731-772-2193.

Therapeutic, Creative & Fun
