Recipe of the Week: Baked Beans for a Big Bunch

The Haywood County Master Gardeners have a special request. Several are attending the state conference in Kingsport next month and have been asked to bring items for a silent auction. They would like to take a “Cookbook Bouquet” comprised of Haywood County cookbooks. This is a good way to brag about all the wonderful Haywood County cooks. If your group, club, church, school or organization has published a cookbook and is willing to donate a copy, please contact me or bring it to the Extension office at 100 South Wilson.

On another note, the Master Gardeners will once again sponsor the Scarecrow Contest during the Hatchie Fall Fest this year (October 20). Start thinking about what your design will be and I’ll let you know when entry forms are available.

How do you say thank you to such a generous people? Remember a few weeks ago I said the United Way campaign had ended and the goal had been met. To say that the campaign was a success is such an understatement that I can’t even begin to find the words. Not only was the goal of $169,300 made, it was surpassed by over $35,000. WOW! And Thank You!!!

There’s still time to sign up teams for the 9th Annual March of Dimes Golf Tournament on June 14. Here’s an entry form to make it easier for you. Hole sponsors and Golf Cart sponsors are still needed, too.

Well, school’s out and it’s the beginning of the Memorial Day weekend. Although the calendar doesn’t declare it, I guess you could say Summer is here. I’m sure you’ll be doing some celebrating, so be careful but have a good time.
