Recipe of the Week: Cheddar Catfish

I hear several local merchants will be open early Friday after Thanksgiving and are planning some special deals. I hope you will spend the biggest shopping day of the year shopping in Brownsville. Our local shops are full of unique items that can’t be found anywhere else and a lot of those items are made right here in Haywood County. And with gas prices the way they are, we really need to shop at home.

I was reminded this week that I should explain better about the candles in the windows. When I ask you to place a candle in your windows, I am referring to the electric candles that can be found each year in the Christmas decorations section of the local stores. The candles are fairly inexpensive and make a dramatic presentation when placed in each of your home’s front windows. At one time just about every house in Haywood County turned their candles on beginning the night of the Christmas parade and left them on – day and night – until after Christmas. I think it would be wonderful to see this happen again. Will you place an electric candle in your window this holiday season?

You’ll notice in the calendar below that I’ve included events for a couple of weeks. I’ll be taking my usual Thanksgiving break, and be back on Nov. 30 to update you on all the Christmas events and activities planned for December. Be sure to send me your events so I can include them, too.

Happy Thanksgiving!
