Volume 3, Issue 46

It’s official. Santa arrives in Brownsville tomorrow night. I love the annual Christmas Parade. Not only is it Old St. Nick’s first visit each year, but it’s such a treat to watch all the lights and sounds of Christmas slowly travel down Main Street. I think it’s the darkness that makes it so magical. The anticipation of not really being able to see what’s coming next but to know that it will be festive and fun.

This year’s parade will be a little different. Probably the most noticeable will be the absence of candy throwing. Now, I have to admit that that is probably my favorite part. Watching the kids anticipating where the next handful will land and who will get to it first. I’ve spent many Christmas Parade nights reminding my niece and nephew, and most recently my grandson, that “you have to wave” if you expect them to throw to you. I understand completely the risk that candy throwing presents and why it had to be eliminated. And I agree with that decision, although I certainly will miss it. None the less, I look forward to Saturday night and I’m still going to tell the kids “you have to wave.” Congratulations to long-time rescue squad member William Burse on being chosen this year’s Grand Marshall.

Enter the Chamber Christmas Tree Decorating Contest by placing a tree on the courthouse lawn. Complete rules and information is available on the entry form, and must be returned to the chamber by Dec. 7. Chamber Bucks awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.

Rotary Pecans are here. Along with the always favorite chocolate-covered and plain, this year you can also choose from cinnamon and salted, too. Contact any Rotarian to buy a bag ($7).

Heard this week that Rick and Freda Sullivan’s grandson, Matthew, is a finalist in a Gap Casting Call. He was one of 20 chosen out of 800,380 entrants. You can see a picture of Matthew and help him win by casting your vote at: www.gap.com/castingcall.

If you happen to be in the Braden Community Saturday morning, stop by the Fire Department for a Pancake Breakfast. The fire department is on Highway 70 and the pancakes will be served from 6-10 a.m.
