WOW! What a festival. I hope everyone had the chance to enjoy the music and activities. Thank you to all the sponsors and to the entire community for its support and attendance. It was the biggest year, yet!

 

All About Brownsville celebrated an anniversary on Sunday, October 21. For two years, you have been supporting me in this effort to help keep Brownsville informed of upcoming events and I am grateful to each and every one of you for your encouragement and contributions to this newsletter. Thank you.

 

Wednesday is Halloween and lots of activities for the kids are planned all week. Be sure and check it all out, have fun and be safe.

 

The Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse will host an open house at the new John Clinton Child Advocacy Center on Thursday. Go by for a tour and see what efforts are being made to help prevent child abuse and to minimize the trauma to the child when it has occurred.

 

Don’t forget you have until November 2 to order a fully-cooked Boston Butt with all proceeds going to Project: Park of Dreams. Cost is $25 each. Call 772-3031 to place your order.

 

The Dunbar Carver Alumni Museum and Cultural Center, 709 East Jefferson, opened September 1, and showcases the achievements of African-American students in Haywood County. The hours of operation are 1-3 p.m., Monday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. Private tours can be arranged. Admission is free, but donations are accepted. Haywood High School FCCLA is conducting a fruit sale until October 31. The fruit will be delivered the first week of December and you can choose from gift baskets, apples, oranges, grapefruits and tangelos. Contact any FCCLA student or Pam Diebold at 731-772-4221 to place an order.

Upward Basketball & Cheerleading Registration

Register for Brownsville Baptist Church Upward Basketball and Cheerleading from 10 - 1, October 27 and Nov. 3. Children in 1st through 6th can register to participate in basketball or cheerleading. Registration fee for basketball is $48 and for cheerleading is $53. Late fee of $10 for registering after October 27. Registration will take place in the Brownsville Baptist Church Family Life Center. For more information, call Jason Smith at 772-9753.

 

Union Grove Annual Stew

Union Grove United Methodist Church will again sponsor its annual stew sale on Saturday, October 27. Stew is sold by pre-orders only and is available for $20 gallon (container is provided). To place your order call 772-4167 or 772-0804. Union Grove is located at 8118 Hwy. 70 East in the Union Community.

Pastor Appreciation Day

Keeling Baptist Church will celebrate Pastor Appreciation Day Sunday, October 28. Sunday School begins at 10 a.m., Worship services at 11 a.m., followed by a pot-luck dinner at noon, specials and congregational singing will begin at 1:15 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend. Keeling Baptist Church is located 5 miles west of Stanton on Hwy. 70, at the Haywood/Tipton County line.

 

Monday, October 29

 

Care Giver Support Group

Cindy Wilkins, from the Haywood County Health Department, will conduct a seminar on Depression at the Caregiver Support Group Meeting Monday, October 29, 10 a.m., at the Brownsville Senior Center. All caregivers are encouraged to attend. For more information, call 772-2438 and ask for Peggy or Reba. The Senior Center is located at 127 N. Grand.

It’s Halloween!!!

                                              

Trunk & Treat Halloween Carnival

Haywood Park Community Hospital will present a Trunk & Treat Halloween Carnival on Wednesday, October 31, from 4-7 p.m., in the hospital parking lot and walking track. Enjoy trick or treating in the front parking lot and a haunted hayride along the track field. No admission fee will be charged, however carnival games and hayride will require a ticket purchase. Fish Fry & Halloween Carnival

First Presbyterian Church and First United Methodist Church will once again combine efforts to present a Fish Fry & Halloween Carnival on Wednesday, October 31, at First Methodist. Fish Fry begins at 5 p.m.; Trick or Trunk will be held from 5:30 – 6 p.m. in the church parking lot; Carnival will begin at 6 p.m. and includes a Parade of Costumes at 6:45 p.m. Other activities include a cake walk and kid’s games. Everyone is invited.

 

Family Fall Fest

Brownsville Baptist Church invites everyone to the Family Fall Festival on Wednesday, October 31 from 5:30 - 8:00 PM. We will have everything that makes for a great festival: carnival-style games, a cake walk, a bouncing castle, candy, hamburgers, hot dogs and wonderful door prizes. Our theme is "The County Fair" and children can enter their favorite stuffed animal in our livestock judging contest as well as get their picture taken with Bessie the Cow. Costumes are welcome, but no scary costumes, please. Admission donation is $.50 per person, maximum $2.00 per family. For more information, contact Jason Smith at 772-9753.

John Clinton Child Advocacy Center

The Exchange Club Carl Perkins Center invites everyone to the Grand Opening of The John Clinton Child Advocacy Center Thursday, November 1, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Refreshments will be served and a special Ribbon Cutting ceremony will take place at noon. The new center is located at 130 Boyd Avenue, next to the City Pool.

 

Jim Johnson Orchestra to Perform

The Brownsville Haywood County Arts Council will present The Jim Johnson Orchestra Thursday evening, November 1. Taking the audience on a musical journey, from society and Latin beats to the big band swing, from the best of rhythm & blues to good ole rock 'n roll, every beat is designed to bring the crowd to its feet. Performances begin at 7 p.m. in the Ann Marks Performing Arts Theater. Tickets are $12.50 for adults and $6 for students. Tickets are available at INSOUTH Bank, Livingston’s and by calling Betsy Thornton at 772-4883.

HHS Homecoming

Haywood High School will celebrate Homecoming Friday, November 2, when the Tomcats take on Ripley. Kick-off is at 7:30 p.m., at the stadium on Boyd Ave.
