Recipe of the Week: Baked Dove

United Way kicked off its 2007-08 campaign last Friday. Over 50 people attended the event held at the new Carl Perkins Center on Boyd Avenue. While enjoying a delicious breakfast provided by Insouth Bank, and touring the new advocacy center, supporters unveiled this year’s campaign goal — $178, 400. Haywood County raised over $200,000 during the last campaign and with the enthusiasm shown at Friday’s event, we are no doubt ready for another successful year.

September 16-22 has been designated as Imagination Library Week in Tennessee and the Haywood County Reading Railroad will kick-off its Fall Enrollment Campaign at this Saturday’s Haywood Movement. Reading Railroad volunteers will present “StoryTime on the Courthouse Lawn” beginning at 10 a.m., for kids to come and enjoy a story or two. They will also be selling books for $2 and signing up children under 5 years of age to receive their free book each month. There are still approx. 400 children in our county who are eligible but aren’t signed-up. Learn more about Reading Railroad and Imagination Library Week.

Don’t forget Haywood Movement Saturday. This is a family event offering an area for exercise (walking, biking, skating) and local organizations and businesses will be set-up offering everything from baked goods to designer clothing. Hatchie Fall Fest t-shirts will be for sale and we have a few children’s sizes (XS-L) available this year. Be sure and bring the kids for StoryTime at 10 a.m., and enjoy a Saturday morning on the court square.
