Recipe of the Week: Christy’s Pineapple Cake

Last Saturday’s Haywood Movement was a great success. Thank you to everyone who came out and showed your support. The weather was perfect and I’m already looking forward to the next one, September 29. If you have a business, club or organization you would like to promote, please join us. The cost is $0. That’s right. Absolutely free to set up a table and spend a morning on the court square promoting your business and visiting with friends. E-mail me or Marieta for more info and to reserve your spot.

Speaking of fun on the square, don’t forget to enter the Scarecrow Contest before October 8. The contest is Saturday, October 13 and will include some entertainment and food on the courthouse lawn. Cash prizes (up to $100) will be awarded. There were 39 scarecrows placed on the lawn last year and we would like to see even more this year.  Enter the scarecrow contest.

The Chamber is now accepting nominations for Man of the Year, Woman of the Year, Educator of the Year and Business/Industry of the Year. This is a good time to recognize those whom you believe help to make our community the best it can be. Contact the chamber, 772-2193, for a nomination form and more information. Awards will be presented at this year's annual Membership Banquet.

Tickets to the Haywood County DU membership banquet are still available. Call 780-7024 or 780-1536.

Another very important date coming up is October 6. This is the Saturday that WalkAmerica will take place in Haywood County. WalkAmerica is Tennessee biggest fundraiser to benefit the March of Dimes and our walk will once again take place at Haywood Park Community Hospital’s walking track. Teams have been conducting fundraisers all around town and all proceeds benefit the March of Dimes Foundation to prevent premature births. You can join a local team, form your own or donate online by visiting the WalkAmerica website.
