Way to go, Curves! With the help of the community, Curves of Brownsville has collected 3,116 pounds during the 10th Annual Food Drive that ended March 30.  This food will go to the Mustard Seed & Carl Perkins Center. See who the top 3 givers were and a picture of all that food at the Curves of Brownsville Blog.

The late Judge Kirby Matherne, of Brownsville, will be honored April 18 with the naming of a classroom at the UT College of Law. He was a very distinguished gentleman, who was actively involved in the community, both locally and statewide. Read more about Judge Matherne.

I’ve learned that young ladies and men who compete in beauty pageants will have two opportunities to be crowned in Haywood County this Spring. Crestview Healthcare is sponsoring a Miss Hatchie pageant April 26 and the Humane Society will sponsor a pageant on May 3. Both are benefit pageants, so if you are, or know someone, 21 years or younger, tell them about these events. More information about both pageants can be found on the Community Calendar.

There was a great crowd at the Connected Tennessee kick-off meeting Tuesday night. And a lot of very interesting information was shared. As a strategic plan for Haywood County is developed, it’s going to be very important to have your feedback. To begin with, Connected TN needs to know if you have access to high speed internet. If you only have access to dial-up in your home, please go to ConnectedTN.org and click on the icon at the bottom of the page where it says: Broadband is not available to me yet. Even if you use satellite because high-speed is not available in your area, please fill out the form and in the comment area tell why you use satellite.

Ever been to a wine tasting? Each year the local YMCA offers several “On the Town” events as part of their fundraising efforts. Coming up Saturday, April 19 is “A Taste of the Vineyards.” Tickets are $30. Wine Master Bill Huddleston, of Memphis, will present wines for every palate, and hors d’oeuvres to compliment each wine selection will also be served. Call the YMCA at 731-772-9748 to make your reservations for this special evening. There are other special evenings planned, too. Ask about them when you call.

Parks & Rec. has announced its Summer Food Program. This program provides kids, 18 and under, with free lunches during the summer at designated location across the county.

Don’t forget Flocked for a Cure. Send a flock of flamingo to a friend’s house for only $10. Call 731-772-8629. All proceeds benefit Relay for Life.

Hope you have a great weekend and remember, if you have something you want to talk about, visit the AAB Blog, click on a comments link and tell us what’s on your mind.
