All About Brownsville

& Haywood County

August 1, 2008

Volume 4, Issue 29

Can you believe it’s time for school to start again? Even though I haven’t been to school in some years, it still seems like the summer breaks are just not long enough. Of course, I’m sure there are those who would argue it’s too long. At any rate, things will be busy this week as parents and kids scurry around trying to get back into the routine. There will be noticeably more traffic, so be careful and watchful of school buses and students walking to and from school. First day for students, which is a half-day, is Tuesday, August 5.

Don't forget about the new dress code for Haywood County Schools. Today begins the first day of the tax-free holiday in Tennessee and would be a good time to go buy all those last minute school items and clothes. I understand that several local businesses are carrying the dress code items, so save some gas, and cash, and shop locally first. The ones I know about are "Jewels Fashion," on the square, and "Uniform Outlet," next to E.W. James. I'm sure Wal-Mart also has some items that will meet code.

And above all, if you have not voted yet, do so during the County General Election and State Primary this Thursday, August 7. If you have children in school and live in Districts 2, 6, 4 or 10, this election should be especially important to you.

Are you a part of a project for United Way’s 2008 Days of Action? If so, tell us about it. Go to the AAB Blog and tell us about your project/activity.

Tables are still available for the Steak N’ Burger Dinner hosted by the Boys & Girls Club, Brownsville Unit, coming up Thursday, August 14.  Former NBA star and U of M Tiger player Elliot Perry will be the guest speaker. For more information and to reserve a table, call 731-772-0552.
