Don’t forget to pick-up your Boston Butt today if you
ordered from the Exchange Club or Haywood Helping Hands. Proceeds from both
fundraisers will go to good causes. And if you meant to order but forgot, Cub
Scout Pack #68 is now selling them to benefit the Park of Dreams. The 8 lb.
butts are $30 each. Call 731-772-2804 or 731-772-2806 to place your order. If you own or operate a small business you’ll be
interested in “Business Management 101,” presented by the University of
Tennessee. The seminar will be held Thursday, September 11, from 1-4:30 p.m.,
at First South Community Room. Call the UT Extension office, 731-772-2861,
for more information and to sign-up. You’ll notice the calendar is a little slim this week.
Okay, a lot slim. I bet you are too busy planning your last long weekend of
the summer to be thinking about much else, anyway. Enjoy! Starting off the fun in October is the Hatchie Fall Fest
Scarecrow Contest on October 11. Over the last four years the annual contest
has gone from 8 entries to 40. What do you say that this year we shoot for
60? The entry forms are ready and you can enter online. This year’s
scarecrows will be judged by Tipton and Northwest Tennessee Master Gardeners.
It will be an honor to have these groups visit Brownsville and judge our
scarecrows. The scarecrows have become a big part of our festival and seem to
draw a lot of attention. There will also be music and food beginning at 3
p.m. The Master Gardeners are looking for local talent who would like to
perform that night. Let me know if you are interested. The Brownsville-Haywood County Arts Council has its
2008-09 events planned. Season tickets are $30. Events for the year are:
Sept. 20 – “The Buddy Holly Story;” Jan. 31 – “A Brownsville Homecoming II;”
and March 7 – “The Memphis Symphony Orchestra” in concert. Don’t wait, place
your orders now for season tickets (20% off regular purchase price), call the
Arts Council office at 731-772-4883. ~ Sonia Join the Conversation: AAB Blog |
